Hi,

Check the feeder slot for any debris (paper, correction fluid etc.)
Also open the lid so check the platen glass. to the far left should be a narrow strip of glass seperate from the main plate. make sure there are no marks on this, usually correction fluid or ink from ballpens likes to get smeared on here when using the feeder causing a perma black object to be scanned for copying / scanning. hence the mark on the copy / scan.

Wipe carefully with a warm, damp cloth and some window cleaning detergent to remove any marks from there.

    BirdDog,

Thanks for the tip, as I had the same issue, but hadn't known what to do about it. I was up against a deadline and was able to get it cleaned and fixed. God bless you for your post.

I have a Epson cx11 and get a black vertical line down the middle of scans and copies

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first
1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section
2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass
So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it

Verticle lines appear on document when scanning through document feeder. No verticle lines on document when it is scanned face down on the glass. How do I clean the document feeder?

There is a thin strip of glass next to the main platen glass, where documents fed through the feeder are scanned. You most likely have Wite-Out or some sort of debris stuck to the glass. You can probably wipe this residue off, but if you need to clean that strip of glass, use alcohol and a lint-free rag.

What causes a line down the middle of copied pages

There is something on your scan glass. My guess is you are getting the line on your copies when you run the original through the document feeder. If you get lines through the document feeder but not on copies made off the glass then it is a dirty scan glass. There is a thin glass strip where the document feeder feeds the original. Usually something like white out that did not dry smears off an original and ends up on this thin strip of glass. Scratch it off with your finger nail and use some glass cleaner to resolve the problem. The scan glass is about 1/2 an inch to an inch wide and will be on the same side of the machine that the copier feeds the originals in on.

Line appears on scans and faxes

Do you use the document feeder when faxing and scanning? If so, the line is likely some paper dust, white-out, or other dirt on the thin piece of glass to the left of the main platen glass. Wipe that glass strip with a lint-free cloth, and if that doesn't work try using a little bit of alcohol.

If the line persists, or it occurs when you don't use the document feeder, it's probably dust somewhere in the optical portion of the unit, underneath the glass. If you want to take it apart, you can blow some compressed air around down there to scatter the dust or try wiping down the mirrors with a lint-free cloth.

Fax has stipe down middle

When you open the topt cover, there are 2 scanner glasses. A small one a and a big one, the small one is used when using the feeder. Spray some windex direclty on soft cloth and clean the 2 scanner glasses as well as the white reference above( there are 2 small and big). You may even see it, a mark it the middle of the glass.

This should resolve the issue

Black line in the middle of the output - scaned document

Hello,

A black line down a scanned page indicates a dirty scan glass. Lift the top of you scanner like you would putting a page or book down to scan. On the end of the scanner that has the document feeder you should see a thin piece of glass the is separate from the larger glass pane. This is the document feeder glass. Now check it over for a very small mark of ink or dirt. You can use regular glass cleaner to wipe this glass just spray it on a piece of cloth not the scanner then wipe. You may have to wipe and then try scanning several times if the ink or marker is died on. while you are cleaning you should also clean the main glass pane, it will make the scans clearer and crisper.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Black vertical lines in copies

You need to clean the glass. Open up the feeder and you have a large piece of glass for scanning and to the left a smaller piece of glass that it uses to scan from the feeder. Clean this smaller piece of glass; even the slightest smudge can leave a black streak.

Dark balck line down middle when copying, but not when printing

If this happens only when you feed the original through the top feeder and not when you lay it on the glass, then you have a small bit of dirt at the scanning location--since the paper moves, rather than the scanning bar, the section of glass that is involved is very small and one little bit of dirt will make a line down the whole page. You need to lift the automatic document feeder mechanism and clean the glass strip under it--that's where your (unseen) dirt is. (Page 108 of the manual, if you have one.)
