Please, let me know the Operating System installed on your computer, I don't want to mess up with so many options here. Thanks.

On to my second web cam, tried logitech and now microsoft life cam 3.0, no problem with video but can not get any audio!!

Have you set the mic you wish to use with your webcam as Default ?

XP
Plug in your webcam or headset or mic you wish to use with your webcam
Control Panel (Classic View)
Open 'Sounds and Audio Devices' folder and click on the 'Volume' tab - make sure the speakers are not muted, open 'Speaker volume' and set the sliders toward the upper end.
Open 'Audio' tab - make your preferred mic the default device in the 'Sound recording window'
Open 'Volume' below the window to ensure the mic is not muted
Click 'Apply' and 'OK'
Restart your computer
Configure the webcam / mic to your chat program

VISTA
Plug in your webcam or headset or mic you wish to use with your webcam
TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Right click on the volume graph and select 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'
To set your preferred mic as default - click the mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays

Restart computer

Configure to your chat program

Web cam shows up but will not let me cam with other people using messenger

Clr,
The webcam showing in the configuration is not enough. What you have to do is to configure the IM through Tools->Options->Video. Here you must configure the webcam as the default webcam and similarly in Audio you musy configure this webcam's mic as the default mic. Save the settins and you are on. BUT before that you must also click open the Volume icon in the system tray. Here most likely you would find the mic muted. Remove the tick mark and unmute the mic. save this too and now you can really video talk with anyone who too has a similar arrangement.
Happy (video) Holidays.

No audio

After starting the webcam go to the Volume icon in the system tray and un-mute the Mic. Some Windows is in a habit of muting the mic very often. So every time you want to use the mic, um-mute it from this icon.

I have just installed my web cam and have tryied to chat with contact We can see each other no sound?

Check your sound recording settings in the control panel. Might be the wrong default device or the mic audio level is mute or near zero.
Here is an example of hw to do this in Vista: http://www.pcauthorities.com/multimedia/how-to-fix-sound-recording-problems-in-vista

Did ya check your respective audio mixer and application mute settings? Perhaps in the chat application or mixer, he's muted his microphone or selected a different default mic. Then there's your mixer and IM app's settings as to who you'd like to hear and when....

Lifecam video works great - but no audio!

do a cam/mic test in the audio/video settings in the tools tab in yahoo/msn. Then you need to minimise the yahoo/msn screen and right click on the cam icon in the taskbar and check that the mic and cam are enabled and that it is set to allow other programes to take control of this device
