I had similar problem and i just fixed this with the help of ps3 repair guide. It was the cable that went from my bluray drive to the console that was being pushed. I removed the cable and reseated the cable (be damned careful if you try this DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR WITHOUT THE PHOTO ILLUSTRATED GUIDE.. You have to lift a plastic flange and slide the cable out. I broke this flange and figured out that it holds the cable through compression and wedged it back on. So try not to break yours

I think you are inserting the discs in the opposite way. actually the writing should be on the right side while inserting the dics while the wii is on its stand.

It says..please insert a playstaion or playstation 2 disc format.

It's not asking for a specific disc, it's asking for a properly formatted PlayStation disc.

This message could mean that any one of several things has happened:
* You are trying to play a Japanese disc on a US PS2, or vice versa
* You are trying to play a game that has been copied onto a CD-R/DVD-R
* Your disc is scratched/dirty/otherwise unreadable
* Your disc isn't a format that the PS2 recognises (i.e. CD, DVD, PS CD-ROM, PS2 CD-ROM, PS2 DVD-ROM, etc)
* Your PS2 is broken

No discs recognised

Either 3 things could have happend.. the laser is off track which needs to be re-aligned, the blu ray drive is no longer good, or it just needs to be cleaned! Let me know what happens.. If you need a new drive they are 130$ish..
if the seal is in tact 167$ plus shipping to sony.. If you need one after you clean it(with a laser disc cleaner bought at the store) let me know I can give you instructions and the drive takes 10-15 min and your ready to go!

System not recognising disc

Is it only happening for this one disk? If so, I'd say it's probably a bad disk. I've ran into a couple of those before. Probably an error in production, I'd suggest taking it back and exchanging it for another copy.

If it's happening to most or all of your games, then it's probably a sign that the laser is going out. You could try cleaning it - get any CD or DVD cleaning kit and follow the instructions. If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the laser. That's a bit more involved, and more expensive, but I can help you with it if it comes to that.

Disk format

1) Turn on machine
2) Open Tray
3) With tray still open hold the reset until the tray closes.
4) Tap the reset once.
if there is a format disc error, it says "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc." It is accompanied by a sound similar to the browser, but with a more tense noise. This is caused by a disc being so badly scratched that it completely fails to recognise the format, or if there is a problem with the laser. Auto-Diagnosis (PlayStation 2 system) 1. Turn on the system without a disc inside. 2. Once at the Main Menu, press the triangle button to enter the Version Information Screen. 3. Highlight the "Console" option, and then press the triangle button again. 4. Next, press the X button, highlight "On", and then press the X button once more. 5. Now press the circle button twice to return to the Main Menu. 6. Press the eject button on the front of the console, and insert a disc. 7. Now close the disc tray, but DO NOT reset the system. 8. Highlight the Browser option from the Main Menu, and then press the X button. 9. In the Browser, an icon of the disc should appear on the screen. Highlight this icon, and then press the X button to read the disc. 10. If the auto-diagnosis is successful, the disc should load properly at this point.NOTE: The auto-diagnosis feature will return to "Off" the next time a disc is inserted.
