Hello,

If you turn the monitor off then about 1020 sec turn it back on and have a picture for few seconds again, it sound like the power supply in the monitor. But if that did not solve the problem, the picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.

I advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to solve the problem of the blank screen.

Take care.

DS240WB worked fine but seems now not recognizing signal and fails to turn on

The reason why your monitor might not be recognizing a signal is because the graphics card in your pc might not be correctly plugged into a pci slot or your internal graphics may have a short somewhere. If the monitor turns completely off after it cycles Then it might be an internal problem with the backlighting in your monitor screen

Monitor works ok then suddenly loose picture(black screen) turn monitor off then turn it back on works for approx 5 secs then goes back to black screen

there are many reason why a monitor suddenly turned off then back to work again , over use may over heat that cause the soled parts on the printed board of your CRT go loosen , try to re sold it, sometimes your PC might stop viewing so the monitor automatically shot off stby mode , loose connection due to basted parts , capacitors, power regulators, resistors , even the cables also might be.

take off the monitor data cable from pc and try to turn monitor on if appears a smal square on the screen that mean your monitor is ok , and the black screen reason maybe data cable or vga card.

note : your monitor resolution is 1680x1050 some times wrong resolution cause like this problems

Looking like there is an issue with the powerboard on the monitor. This problem you are having appears to be common with this monitor, with a lot of them failing for no apparent reason

My monitor went black, and the power switch just flashes.

is your CPU working properly? if that the case, your monitor is in need of a service.
reasons for why a monitor goes blank?
Reason 1: Wetness
The number one reason why computer monitors go blank is - wetness. Believe it or not, when your computer monitor is exposed to humid air, sometimes water can condense and accumulate in the monitor. This causes the monitor to malfunction and go blank. I've had this happen to my desktop PC at least three times before. What you need to do is to leave the monitor alone for some time and allow the water to evaporate. That usually solves the problem.

Reason 2: Faulty Graphics Card
The next reason why your computer monitor goes black is due to a faulty graphics card. The best way to detect this kind of problem is to connect up a new monitor to your PC, then check if you have a blank screen. If you continue to have a blank screen, then it's likely your video card is faulty.

Reason 3: Faulty RAM
This one is less obvious and less common, but it can happen. You might sometimes get bad RAM modules which prevent your PC from booting up even to the basic BIOS startup screen. To detect this kind of problem is more troublesome, you might need to remove those RAM modules and insert them into another computer.

Reason 4: Loose Connections
Another reason why your monitor goes blank is due to loose connections. The connection from the monitor to the mains is usually a culprit, as is the connection between the monitor and the video card. Check those connections before you declare your computer monitor as faulty.

Reason 5: A Short Circuit In The Motherboard
And the final reason why your computer monitor goes blank? It's possibly because of a short circuit in the motherboard. This is the most undesirable outcome of course, as you might have to replace your entire motherboard. However, it's possible that this can happen - so keep your fingers crossed and hope it doesn't happen to you.
try this.

have a nice day.
