I have the same problem with my Bosch SHU44 built-in-dishwasher. Original problem was water wouldn't pump out and overfilled. Can I reach the safety shut off from the bottom of the machine? Thanks.

Check the float in the bottom of the dishwasher - it may be stuck in the up position, which shuts off the water. - unless it's an old Maytag - which then would indicate that the belt is broken.

You can test the fill valve by reading ohms it should be between 750 and 1200 ohms if it's in that range turn knob to the drain cycle and see if the wires goin to the drain valve are putting out if not that the wires should have 5130 ohms if not it's the timer

Drain Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain pump might be defective or might have some debris in it. This is a common problem.

Circulation Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the circulation pump sound, it's likely that the circulation pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the circulation pump will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Drain Impeller

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain impeller might be broken, or there might be debris in the pump. Generally, to gain access to the pump the top of the pump housing will have to be removed.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher is loud the motor bearings, drain impeller or wash impeller might have worn out. All three of these components are part of the pump and motor assembly. It may be possible to replace one of the impellers, but the motor bearings cannot be repaired. In that case the pump and motor assembly will need to be replaced.

Wash Impeller

The wash impeller is a small, plastic blade. The motor spins the impeller forcing water through the spray arms to clean the dishes. If one or more blades has broken off of the impeller the dishwasher is loud. The impeller can also scrape against the pump housing if it is damaged, warped or bent.

Circulation and Drain Pump Motor

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the motor sound, it's likely that the circulation and drain pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the motor will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled water valve. When it is new, the water inlet valve is very quiet. Over time, the diaphragm inside the valve deteriorates and deforms. This deformation interacts with the water rushing in and can cause a loud vibration, buzzing, squealing or other noises. If the dishwasher is loud during the filling cycle, replacing the water inlet valve may solve the problem.

Water wont empty

The pump out motor is in line with the outlet hose. This motor must spin to pump out water. The motor has 2 push on electrical connectors and mains voltage must be across the connectors in pump out mode. If mains voltage is across and motor does not spin ... motor open circuit and need replacing. If motor spins but no water pumped out indicates either pipe blocked or impeler in motor not turning. No voltage across terminals indicates a wire fault or timer / switching fault that must supply voltage to the pump at the correct time. The removal of the motor is quit easy to do.

Not pumping water out

if the dish washer is not pumping out water it could be a motor or a pump issue. the motor attached to the pump forces water up into the sprayer arms and during the drain cycle, this pushes the water out of the dishwasher. The motor and pump is normally under the dishwasher.
check and see if the motor spins. if it spins, then the problem is with the pump ,if it doesn't spin it could be a motor problem or a motor and pump problem.then test and replace the faulty pump or motor . hope this helps

It could be a motor or a pump issue. The dishwasher has a motor that attached to a pump which forces the water up into the sprayer arms and during the drain cycle, it pushes the water out of the dishwasher. The motor (and pump) located beneath the dishwasher. Check if motor spins. In case it spins, the problem is with the pump ,in case it doesn't spin it could be a motor problem or a motor and pump problem. Good luck

Dishwasher not pumping water

Hi, I have an ASKO 1606 and it stopped turning on. This happened after the sink drain got blocked. All that would happen when switched on was the sound of the pump trying to pump water out. I opened up the panel on the back and found the tray inside full of water. As I started scooping the water out I heard what sounded like a switch clicking on and off. I think there must be a safety float switch or something. Once the water in the tray was cleared everything worked fine again. No more hand washing dishes!! WOOHOO
