Question about IO Magic Corporation GigaBank (I250HD35) 250 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

Where Hello, I have this hard drive and mine just stopped working today. Like most people I have very important info on it and I am going to be sick if I cant retrieve it. You stated you had it put in another casing and it worked fine, where did you take it to? My blue light it on but I can not get it to recognize on any of my computers. Does this sound like what happened to you?

    I have the exact same problem. I did not take the hard drive outside, I did not place it near water. All I did differently was I left it off for about a week and when I turned it on it stopped working. It makes a skipping sound instead of the usually smooth (yet intense) rotating sound it usually makes.

    I have the exact same propblem, the blue light still flashed but it makes a skipping sound instead of the usual rapid RPM noise. I have not taken it outside and exposed it to extreme temperatures and I have not placed it near any water.

    Windows XP doensn't remeber my drive anymore and it doesn't gointo Autoplay when I power it up. The drive never appears on My Computer. Windows finds it, then gives me the new hardware message, it then states it is ready for use but there is no drive letter or access.

There are a variety of things that can malfunction on your external hard drive:
1) The USB cable - Have you tried switching the USB cable?
2) The external hard drive casing
3)  The hard drive itself
If your hard drive casing has malfunctioned, then retrieving your data is as simple as putting the hard drive inside another hard drive enclosure.  Hard drive enclosures are available at any local computer store, and also available by going to our website at www.iomagic.com and clicking on Drive Enclosure.  Make sure to get the right size enclosure.  The I250HD35 has a 3.5" Hard Drive inside it, which is a standard desktop hard drive.

If you put your hard drive in another enclosure and it still won't show up on any of your computers, then your best bet at retrieving your data is to contact a data recovery specialist.   After you have retrieved your data, we will replace your unit if you are still within your warranty period. you have to "stop" external drives under "safely remove hardware" or they can possibly be damaged. if the data is very important, it *may" ber possible to take the hard drive out of the case, and install it in a new hard drive case. this might work, depending upon the type of hard drive. they doi sell external hard drive kitxs in stores, but you have to know if it is a PATA or SATA hard drive. SATA is the newest, and likely any external drive from the past 2 years will be SATA.

hello, if the hdd is not being recognize by your Sony laptop, may be because the device is not responding any more, anyway this is still new you can have that Hitachi replace via the warranty, but your not suppose to tell them what happen cause that would fall for intentional damage. Please refer to another post of mine I JUST submitted. Just like him, I'm going to recommend you also perform a chkdsk on the problem drive ...

chkdsk DRIVE_LETTER: /X /R

Regardless of the outcome of that diagnostic, if you're having ANY persistent hard-disk-drive (HDD) access difficulties, AND you have irreplaceable data contained on that HDD, your IMMEDIATE objective is to BACKUP/RECOVER that data.

I have an external hard drive that has stopped working, disc not turning inside the drive. is there a way to retreve the info off the disk or replace the drive motor on the disk itself.

Hello.
It sounds like you might have a problem with the power supply.
I have seen MANY external hard drives with failing power supplies. Take it to the store you purchased it from for a check up, it should still be under warrantee if its only 3 months old.

My SanDisk 1gb stopped working


I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED SANDISK. THEY ONLY MADE ME MAD. THEY TOLD ME I CAN SEND THEM THE HARD DRIVE, BUT I WILL NOT GET MY INFO BACK. THEY WILL SEND ME ANOTHER DRIVE. SO I WENT OFF, BECAUSE I HAVE ALOT OF IMPORTANT INFO ON MY DRIVE. SO THEY GAVE ME THIS NUMBER 866-603-2195 TO LC TECH THEY RETRIEVE DATA FROM THE DRIVES. THE FEE IS 75.00. YOU DO NOT SEND THE MONEY WITH THE DRIVE. WHEN THEY HAVE RETRIEVED YOUR INFO THAT'S WHEN YOU PAY.

Drive not working at all, Nada


Hello Wolf, Ive had the same problem with mine. There doesnt seem to be an explanation as to why it stopped working. Unfortunately It most likely means that it is broken.

However a useful tip i was givin is if you take the drive out of the casing and attach it directly to your computer (as the slave or master drive) it still doesnt load up then you know for sure that its had it. Otherwise it should load up fine then you just need to transfer the data and get a new drive.

Stopped working COMPLETELY!!!!


Had same problem.

I wiggled back and forth the part that goes into the USB port and the drive was recognized and I could copy my files onto my hard drive.

I had this problem with a different make USB flash drive and used the same procedure to get the files back.

I think that some connection inside the flash drive works loose after a while.

I am not going to trust these drives for files storage, but only to transfer files.
