This is usually caused by the evaporator fan motor. The fan may be rubbing on ice build up or the back panel may be pushing against it. If not do not try to lubricate the motor just replace it. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/refertopevapfan.html

MY WHIRLPOOL SIDE BY SIDE IS MAKING WIERD NOISES - WHIRRING SOUND. COMPRESSOR?

A whirring sound? Can you tell whether it is coming for the inside of the freezer or underneath the unit? I would suspect one of the fans either blocked by something or starting to go out.

My refrigerator is making a constant low whirring noise (only 4 years old)

Check the condenser fan and coils they probably are dirty. If that is not the cause check the fans in the freezer and refrigerator compartments.

Good Luck,

High pitched whirring noise in motor/fan?

the bearings in the motor are going bad. you probably need a new fan motor.

Our LG bottom freezer refridgerator is 2 years old. It is making a whirring noise that stops when the door is opened. It can get pretty loud at times.

The whirring sound is the fan that blows cold air into the refrigerator. It is supposed to stop when the door is opened. If it is making a loud noise there may be ice built up in the fan housing. Turning the power to the refrigerator off for a 2-4 hours may allow any ice in the fan to melt. If you do not open the freezer during that time the frozen food will not defrost. If the noise continues, you may have to take the fan apart to make sure it is not frozen. It is probably located behind the back inside panel of the freezer.

Bottom freezer suddenly had condensation and light wasn't working

That could be the fan in the freezer with ice build up in the area of the evaporator coils which would indicate a problem with the auto defrost system the evaporator coils are behind the back panel of the freezer .

Sound like an aeroplane landing noise

Could be the compressor making noise, vibrating or something loose, if it has a external fan could be that. you need to get access to the rear to check.

I have a GSL25JFPH BS refrigerator by GE. It made the whirring sound, a repairman came out and told me that the fan motor needed replacing, price of $277. I sent him away, and after a few minutes on the internet, saw on this site that a new circuitboard (part# WR55X10656) should fix it. I found it on ebay for $83, and it took about fifteen minutes to install. No more whirring!!
