Question about LG Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi, I have a LG 42LBX the picture has stretched beyond the viewing limits exp. the scroll bar at the bottom of CNN is no longer visable,I can change ratio with the remote but none of them changes the actual size of the picture, the "size" option in the picture menu is grayed out where as you cannot pick this option is there any way to shrink the actual picture size so as to be able to view everything again. Thank you

First thing to try: Look on your cable/satellite remote control for the hd zoom/# button. Press it to change the picture size. The button may also say format or aspect. If there is no such button on the remote there is a way to adjust picture size within the menus on your cable box/satellite receiver and someone from the cable company can walk you through that adjustment.

The cable box or satellite receiver might be set to the wrong resolution. If this tv can display 1080i then the receiver should be set to 1080i. If this television can only display 720p then the receiver should be set to 720p. This would also be done with the cable/satellite remote and you may need to do this from the cable/satellite receiver menus.

The television might be on the wrong input. If the cable box/satellite receiver has been connected to both the antenna input and an hd input you might be on the antenna input so double check that as well.

CHANGING THE SCREEN ASPECT RATIO: ( From Manual )
The TV can display images in four different modes: Wide, Zoom, Panoramic, and Normal. Each mode displays the picture differently. To change the screen aspect ratio:
1. Press the MENU button on the remote.
2. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight the Wide icon. Press OK.
3. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight your desired screen mode and press OK:
• Normal preserves the content's original aspect ratio. Since the 4:3 aspect ratio is not large enough to fill the TV's screen, black bars are added to the left and right of the display image.
• Wide stretches a 4:3 aspect ratio picture to the edges of the screen. Since the picture is being stretched, the display image may appear distorted. If the program is already formatted for widescreen viewing (1.85:1 or 2.35:1), then black bars will appear on the top and bottom of the display image.
• Zoom expands images with black bars to fit the screen.
• Panoramic expands the display image to fill the screen.
images may appear wider than intended.
If you are watching widescreen (1.85:1 or 2.35:1) content, black bars will still appear on the top and bottom of the display image. This option is only available when the TV is displaying a 480i/480p source.

Hd channels need to adjust stretch and normal view

That usually is an adjustment made on whatever source you have hooked to the tv. Some tv models will minuliplate the picture but not all.

Make sure that your software, that you view your pictures with, falls into the 'box format' of 640x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024, etc. Background pictures are typically streched to fit the wider screens. You can change that by right clicking on your desktop.. in XP it is the 2nd tab, on the right side, you can choose stretch or ? Some will give you black bars but no skewing. Then you can adjust your monitor's resolution downward to enlarge your pictures, or leave it at a higher resolution if you don't mind the borders. -DellTech1

On CNN or during football games banner is cut off

It sounds like you're watching wide screen content on a 4:3 tv, so the screen may be zoomed in so that the bars that would normally be on the top and bottom are not showing. Because the picture is zoomed in, images that would be at the top and bottom are off the screen. If you're watching from a home receiver (Uverse, DirecTv, Xfinity, etc.) you need to change the video settings to let the receiver know that your TV's aspect ratio is 4:3 (full screen) and not 16:9 (widescreen). Also, if your channel lineup has the option of watching CNN on a standard definition channel, that would also help because the shape of the image would be what your tv was designed for. If you watch 16:9 programs, you will have to choose letter box mode (bars on top and bottom because the shape of the widescreen image does not match the shape of your tv), pillar box mode (bars on either side) zoomed, or stretched. Stretched will make the shape of everything appear distorted, as it squeezes a widescreen image on the sides to make it narrow enough, so that everyone will have tall and skinny heads like an old Kung Fu movie. The sharpest picture would likely be to watch 16:9 (hi def) content in letterbox mode (bars on top and bottom) so at least you get the proper aspect ratio that the sports were recorded in, and it comes from a sharper source (HD vs SD). I would just deal with the bars, because even with a widescreen tv, there will sometimes be bars because that's how programs are sometimes recorded, for different visual impact or cinematic effect.

I had the same problem with my westinghouse 47 inch HDTV. It turned out that someone had inadvertently hit the "format" key on my satellite (Direct TV) TV remote controller. If you have satellite TV you might want to check this out. I set it back to the previous setting and I get the entire screen. Hope this helps someone.

My EXP has lost its bottom address bar. Everything else is fine

open any folder in the pc then on the Explorer you can see a line of names listed File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help.

select View then you should see status bar make sure this is ticked then go to tools then Folder Options then go to the View tab then select apply to all folders then shut down pc then reboot and see if all is ok with explorer if you find that it has not saved setting then scan for viruses and spy-ware if you have done this and its clear the best thing I can I say save all files and redo windows and when you have got a good working copy then make a backup of the operating system then you can go back to a working copy as the registry gets corrupted and if you can get a reg scanner to fix it then try this first if you find there is too many problems then do the above proccedure.
