Question about Canon CanoScan 8600F Flatbed Scanner
Most likely you removed the driver or it was corrupted when you had the other problems. TWAIN is the standard for the driver that lets the hardware talk to software for this scanner. (Some newer scanners use WIA which is a Windows (Microsoft) protocol.)
To get the scanner to work, uninstall the current driver and unplug the scanner's data cable. Go to the Canon support page and download the driver and software (Toolbox if you want it) for your OS: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_8600f#DriversAndSoftware . Then plug in the scanner.
I hope this helps.
