You are having an improper hardware installation or having hardware malfunction. It may be because of the following reasons:

  1. You changed the hardware settings of some device that results in malfunction of device.
  2. Your RAM will be having some problems. Try unplugging your RAM from RAM slot and remove dust by rubbing with an eraser(only from pins at the bottom of RAM.Do not rub the IC chips and circuits)
  3. You have installed a new hardware device on previous system use that have correpted the system boot settings. Remove the newly installed hardware and try restarting.
If you have checked the above problems and the computer didn't return to normal state then contact for nearest technical support.

When I boot up my desk top with monitor E197 FP LCD stays black takes a few times to go

Hello,

This is a common problem with the E197 units. The problem is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors on the power supply board, they are not holding a charge like they should and it takes several power cycles to get them charged up so the monitor turns on. The E197 uses the same power supply that the E177 uses. Here is a link to a repair guide for the E177 with video disassembly and repair instructions that will help you get your monitor going again.

My HP desk top shuts down during boot. I've

The CPU cooling fan usually sits on top of a heat sink which is held tightly agaist the core of the CPU by the clasps you refered to. It soumds to me like the CPU has oveheated and will only function for a few seconds. If it's a fairly new CPU, you may be able to buy one online at places like http://www.tigerdirect.com. If it's an older model, you will have to try & find one at places like E-bay.

If you install a replacement make sure the CPU fan/heatsink clamps the CPU flush against the heat sink (apply a thin coating termal paste to the top of the CPU core).
NOTE: If the plastic clamps attached to the motheboard which hold the fan clips are broken - forget it! A new CPU will just ovehat again.

If you believe that this information was helpful to you, please rate my solution using FixYa's "Solution Helpful" rating scale.

Bobby,

Please press F8 at boot up and boot in Safe Mode. Once booted, right click on the desk top and select Properties->Settings. Here Reduce the resolution of the screen display one notch and let it reboot normally after that.

If the problem still persists then Press F8 at boot up again and boot up in Last Known Good Boot. option.
