Hi,

Try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.

Restart the system.

If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :

Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.

HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

And delete all references to the external hard drive.

And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.

After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

Can you be a bit more elaborative on the second issue.

What is "wollum 0" i cant get it.

Good Luck.

you could disassemble the case and remove the drive. it could then be connect via an external controller such as(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2477926&CatId=3770) and test if the drive itself is good in which case it is the controller in the case.
cheapest way I can think of to diagnose these external enclosures

I have the small external storage drive. I have the USB plugged in but the device is not registering on my Mac under devices. Thanks, Bob Stewart Respond to rlsok@me.com

Try plugging it onto another computer, prferably with a Windows OS. If it reads, then its a driver issue with your computer or your USB port.
If the device isn't recognised, then Im afraid your hard drive has an issue. Take it to a repair center, hopefully its a loose contact withing the USB/IDE points inside the casing and your data should be fine. Keep your fingers crossed.

Cheers.

My PC does not recognise the La Lacie 1tb hard drive therefore I cannot access the data What can I do

First, try it on another computer. If you get the same problem then the USB controller in the Hard drive case may be faulty. You might be able to take the drive out and use another USB to PATASATA converter. These are available on the internet and in computer shops but you need to check the type of drive inside the case (IDE or SATA) before you buy one.

HI sineadkirk1

There are several reasons why your hard disk can not be recognised by the computer

2> usb port problem
3> the problem on a computer virus or hard disk
4> computer problem
5> hard disk problem

do the test one by one to ensure that the root cause

Computer recognises usb connection briefly and then drops it. computer never sees hard drive

This generally means you have a failed USB controller board or a failed drive inside the enclosure.

Try removing the hard drive from the shell and transferring it into a new external enclosure. If this works you're done, if not the fault is in the drive. I can offer you some advice on DIY methods or direct you to a professional lab near you if you provide your location.

Hope this helps FixYa,
