When we shut the fridge door a loud continuous humming noise comes from the fridge. This seems to be activated by the door light switch at the top. Thank you

There are 2 possibilities I can think of for the hum. When you activate that door switch it activates 2 fans and the compressor. There is one fan located on the compressor and one located in the vent system in the fridge. The second fan is used to circulate cool air evenly through the fridge. I would recommend holding your finger on the door switch and listen carefully whether the noise is coming from inside the back of the fridge or from the lower bottom. Lower bottom could indicate compressor cooling fan or compressor. They would need to be inspected. If it sounds more like the other fan mentioned above it would again need to be inspected. The compressor cooling fans can get stuck or become noisy due to bearing failure. The vent fan can get stuck or noisy but also in some cases if the defrost circuit is not working can chock up with ice and create a buzzing noise as the fan blades strike the ice.

How do I my whirlpool model G115NDXZB0

You may have a compressor failure, due to the failure of the fan.
Have you tried turning the fridge off for a few hours and re-starting it?
If the compressor then starts without any unusual noises, it might just be overheated, and a replacemaent fan will cure it.
Otherwise, it looks like a new compressor and fan will be needed.

I have a Whirlpool mod. ED5LHEXD00 refrig. I left home for 3 weeks in Dec. with the house temp. set to 50 deg. F. I got home and discovered that the refrig./freezer was at room temp and all the food had...

If Fridge working fine now, the problem may be is Hydro Grid.

When the fridge just start, the compressor is running with high pressure of Freon. If Hydro power has voltage surge or power Off/On ( suddenly ), the compressor should be stuck, the overheat protection switch will actived, than fridge will stop working.

The noice of "click" - properly is overheat switch auto-reset.

Whirlpool eet171pk relay switch

do you mean the compressor won't start and you hear a clicking sound every few minutes?if so most likely the start device on the compressor is bad,you have to send the model number off of the machine,if it's a bottom mount or side by side, open the fridge door and look on the right side wall up near cieling and you'll see a tag with model and serial numbers,if the freezer is a top mount open the fridge door and look on the left side wall up near cieling and send model number so someone can look up your machine.have you vacuumed out the coil,if the coil is filled with dust the machine will run hotter than normal and can damage the start device and the compressor.

Frig and freezer both just quit working

on the compressor there's a start device that fails, most likely this is your problem, unplug the machine, remove the back bottom panel and look at the compressor, you'll see the device on the side of it,pop off the clip, the cover and slide the device off of the compressor, easy way to test it,just shake it,if you hear little pieces rattling around inside of it the device is bad.this has an overload and relay in it,they fail and the compressor stops running, call your parts store, give them the model number and tell them you're looking for the start device and they will sell you the correct part,if it's a side by side open the fridge door, look on the right hand side wall up near the ceiling and you'll see a tag with the model and serial numbers, just need to give them the model number.good luck.this is a common problem.

My whirlpool refrigerator/freezer is not cooling. lights come on, fan comes on...don't hear compressor coming on, not sure. coils are clean (they are in front). Don't know what to do next.

Switch off the fridge for few hours then before you you switch on check the continuity of the main power cord to the compressor which comes thrrough the main relay. Now the relay is activated by the thermostat/pressure switch/defrost timer.
So you will be able to trace the path of the power to activate the compressor. however if the relay clicks and shuts off the the capacitor must be checked or replaced. However if there is a heavy drain of current- use a clamp tester meter- the compresssor can be a suspect.
Please check this link for a idea of the parts.

Whirlpool fridge compressor will not kick in

call your parts store, give them the model number, open the fridge door on the right hand wall up near the ceiling you'll see a tag with the model number, tell them you need a start device and they will sell you you hear a clicking sound or smell anything, when my device went i could smell it.unplug the fridge, remove the bottom panel in the rear and on the compressor you'll see a clip, pop it off, slide the start device off, shake it,if you hear pieces rattling around inside it,it's bad, leave the wires on until you get the new time send the model number,a bad timer, board or cold control could also cause this.if the machine gets stuck in defrost the compressor won't run.if you open the freezer door and the fan is blowing,it's not in defrost and most likely it will be the start device.hope this helps.

Amana side by side fridge and freezer not cold. The model #ASD2624HES I have done some research and I think it might be the relay switch or the compresser. If anyone had has this problem with this model...

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Part 4 on this diagram is your relay. Here's how you can check it.

Compressor runs for 5sec.

the sound your hearing is most likely the starter relay for your compressor. this is a common failure part for this model whirlpool. if the unit is out of warranty you can purchase part# 8201786 from any local appliance parts deealer, online at numerous parts suppliers or the easiest in my opinion sears the kit is a plug and play part and has very good instructions so that you could replace it yourself. the part should be less than 65-70 dollars.
I do reccomend that you unplug the refrig to prevent damage to your compressor.

If you have any further questions please leave a comment here and I'll be glad to assist you in any way I can. thanks Peyton

My Whirlpool Fridg. Model ED22RF has a problem. The freezer is defrosting and neither side is cold. Sounds like the compressor switch is kicking on for a second and then off but the compressor never really...

yea that sounds like a compressor issue( under 5 year manufactrue warr.) you can try replacing te overload/relay assy mounted to the side of thecompressor , sometimes you get lucky and it works part number 4387767
