Question about Amana ARB8057CSL Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Bad water valve?

I'm not sure what a bad water valve is or where I would look. It worked for 3 or 4 days before crapping out.

Will it be obvious if the valve is bad? Sorry this is all new to me. I'm not very good with things like this (obviously). Thanks!

If your certain the line isn't frozen. Then your valve is bad

My water located inside the fridge is not working, changed the filter, lowered the temp, checked the cable, ice maker is working. What could be the problem?

bad water valve, the water enters in the back and then there are two valves, one for the ice maker and one for the drinking water but you have to buy the whole valve to repair it,you just can't replace the valve for the water.call your parts store, give them the model number off of the machine and they will sell you the correct valve, either the solenoid is bad or sediment is in the valve.did you check to make sure the line isn't frozen?under the freezer door there's a connection that you can separate the water line, when it's appart hit the water,if water comes out of the line then the water line is frozen in the door and you can hit the door with a hair dryer or turn the temp.up to make it a little warmer in the freezer and after a couple of days it should work,if no water comes out bad water valve.hope this helps.

Hi and wlecome to FixYa, I am Kelly. You really have 2 problems.... 1 the inlet water valve has failed causing the water in the ice tray. The only remedy for this is to replace the inlet water valve. If you can squeeze the rubber fill tube at the back of the icemaker and it is / was frozen solid the inlet water valve is for sure bad.
Turn off the water supply to the ice maker until the water valve is replaced or the current problems you have WILL repeat.

The other problem you have is due to the door being open the evaporator coils iced up big time and the normal defrosting process is not removing all of the ice. Unplug the unit and direct a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours with the freezer contents removed. While the unit is manually defrosting... open the back of the unit by removing the lower fiberboard cover and clean the condensor coils and fan along with the drip pan / tray.

After 2 hours clean up the water mess and return the unit to normal service. It should work just fine.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

BACK OF THE FRIDGE IS THE WATER VALVE. UNPLUG THE OUTLET WATER OF THE VALVES, LEAVE THE INLET CONNECTED. APPLY 120 TO THE VALVE AND SEE IF WATER COMES OUT. MOST LIKELY YOU HAVE TWO VALVE, WATER AND ICE. IF THEY BOTH WORK, YOU HAVE A BAD MODULE IN THE ICEMAKER

Water suddenly stopped coming out of front water dispenser. Put in new filter, no change. What next?

Three different causes. Your water reservoir in the refer section is behind your crispers, this can freeze up if you have adjusted your temperatures in your refrigerator or if you have a thermostat or damper problem. Adjust your refer thermostat to a warmer setting and wait a couple of days to see if it works. 2: Bad water valve, easy to test with an electrical tester. Remove your backing plate behind the refer. Loosen your water line to the valve to make sure you have water pressure. Tighten water line. Remove screw holding valve to cabinent. Test for 120 volts at the two wires that go to your water valve solenoid,(if there are two solenoids then trace the water line to your reservoir, the solenoid above this connection is the one to test). Someone had to press the water dispenser while you are testing voltage. I usually disconnect the water line going to the reservoir to see if water comes out when the switch is pressed. If no water but you have 120 volts then replace the valve. 3: Bad dispenser switch or wiring. This is a lot more complicated to test. Some dispenser assemblies are incredibly complicated and difficult to get into to test. I usually recommend you call a technician if you have reached this point. Good Luckd, Appliance Specialists

Ice dispensor not working

Most likely reason water not dispensing out door 1) You can turn up the temp in the freezer to see if it thaws in a couple of days, 2) Turn on the dispenser light and leave it on, will thaw the line and keep it thawed, 3) the water tank is frozen in the fresh food side (you can defrost with a blow drier) 6) the fill valve went bad or plugged ( power to fill valve but not opening) ($50) 7) Micro switch went bad in the dispenser for the water side 8) Door switch bad 9) Install a heater kit to thaw the line and it will keep it thawed ($35) PN#1381601 10) You can replace the whole door if insulation gone bad in door ( $500 to $800) 11) a broken wire to the fill valve ( no power to fill valve ) 12) with GE refrigerator bad dispenser boards or control boards ($400 and $150) 13) plugged, faulty or incorrectly installed water filter let me know more about you problem and I can help..

Ice maker stopped working

The laser , is supposed to blink . This laser , tells the icemaker to stop making ice , when the bin is full . Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the icemaker . If it doesn't dump the cubes into the bin , the icemaker is bad . Or , if there is ice in the bin , which hasn't dumped , the icemaker is bad . If the icemaker dumps the ice ( from water pour ) , then look above the fill cup , and see if the black fill tube is frozen . If so , then replace the water valve and turn the freezer temp down slightly . It will take several days for this fill line inside freezer to thaw . If icemaker dumps , and black tube NOT frozen , replace the water valve . The valve , is where the wall water line connects to on the refrig .

Water dispenser just quit putting out water one day whirlpool refriderator

Your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does leave the door open till it thaws
OR
disconnect the line to the water dispenser at the water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in and try the dispenser. if you hear the valve work but water doesn't come out, the valve is bad. If you don't hear the valve, the dispenser switch is bad.

Got ice but no water

It could be the water valve side for the dispenser. So a coupleproblems can be had with this description. 1. The electricsolenoid for the valve is bad so it doesn't open the valve. 2.The valve itself could be bad so the solenoid opens it but nothingflows. 3. The water line could be frozen inside the door so nowater flows. 4. The dispensor switch is bad or the plastic holderthat holds the switch is bad so the switch fell out of its properposition. 5. The circuit board is bad.

Easy way to check is to pull out the fridge and take the water line offthat valve by pressing down on the little ring around the line whilepulling up on the line (tube thing). It should pull out easily(to reinsert just push the tubing back in without holding the littlering down, it goes in by itself and self-seals). With the tubeout of the solenoid valve have someone operate the water dispensorlever and see if water shoots in your face ha ha. Read further ifyou're testing by yourself...

You can also do the same test from the front underside where the tubinghas a coupling just under the door hinge area (so you can take the dooroff without cutting the tubing). Pull the lower skirt off the front ofthe refer and you should see the tubing and little coupling, it worksthe same, push down on the ring area and pull the tubing out. That way you don't have to move the fridge and can operate thedispensor lever yourself to see if water flows out the disconnectedcoupling. If water flows then the valve/switch/circuit board areworking fine of course and your tubing is frozen at the door. You willneed to defrost the tubing somehow, usually means a hairdryer blowingup into the dispensor area or turning off the whole refer and leavingthe door open for a day.

If nothing happens (no water still) then you need to check if thesolenoid is working electrically. Pull the fridge out and pullthe wire plug off the icemaker valve and put the wire plug from thedispensor valve on the icemaker valve. Watch inside the icemaker andpush the door dispensor lever, if water flows into the icemaker thenthe electrical door switch/circuit board is OK and the problem islikely the solenoid valve to the dispensor is bad or a frozen line inthe door still. You get the idea, you can swap wires/valves andeven tubing (if their the same size) around till you logically find thepart not working. Remember in troubleshooting you're not reallytrying to find the broken part... you're trying to find ALL the otherparts are working, which by process of elimination will lead you to thelast part that ISN'T working.

If you are comfortable with electrical troubleshooting using amultimeter you can check for 110 vac at the plugs when the switch ispress also but that depends on your tools and skill level, etc.

See this link for a diagram of that door assy and the parts involved.

Typically I'd be suspicious of the valve itself being bad or thecircuit board, next on the list is the switch, and last would be thefrozen line.

Good luck and let me know what you end up finding!

If nothing happens then you are down to either the circuit board is bad or the switch is bad.
