I have made a lot of spelling mistakes, sorry. One thing I didn't add is that the unit works if it is left on the charger, it is only when you remove it that it stops as the battery has not charged.

    Hi Wasami

I had a spare battery, which should be OK, I hope, as it seems to show a good voltage of 3.34Volts even after I have shorted it out for a second or so and it is a 3.7Volt rated battery, but that didn't work either. If it is any help on the LCD display at the top on the left of the word HELP is a battery symbol and that has a question mark inside it. This is on the home screen where all the devices are displayed for selection. The moment I remove the Remote from the charger cradle it goes off.

    Regards
    John

Battery and charger are both OK. I am an electronic engineer and have all the necessary gear to check things of that sort. However, when it comes to the Remote itself there is little one can do to fix it at the chip level.

The opnly possibility is that one of the battery contacts inside the remote is not touching the battery. I will have to strip the remote down to see if I can fix it as one of the terminals has been damaged, but when I soldered an extra piece onto it it still didn't work. The charger and battery are bot defintely OK so it has to be a faul tin the remote.

  • john_chubb Sep 10, 2010

I am using another new battery but that doesn't work either. The charger voltage is fine as it works the remote perfectly when it is on the charger. The voltage reading is about 3.4volts when on the remote which is close to the 3.7volt rating so it would seem to be a remote fault somewhere in the battery circuit or a damaged connection in that area.

  • john_chubb Sep 10, 2010

I have a new battery, and that wasn't the fault. I am as near certain as I can be that it is a problem in the Remote charging area or one of the terminals in the battery compartment of the remote.

  • john_chubb Sep 13, 2010

The remote works again and the solution was getting the contacts in the remote to make contact with the battery terminals. Particularly the centre terminal which was damaged as this will fail to indicate the battery level if it is not connected.
My solution was to buy a faulty remote on Ebay for a low price and replace the battery connections from that with my remote. Not the easiest thing to do without damaging the circuit board, but I managed it.
Thanks for your help in trying to track the fault. I was going to dump the remote but your suggestions kept me going in search of the solution.

Hi John,

Try resetting your remote, it has become confused as to its battery state, and is communicating that back to the cradle.

Reset Procedure:
Take the battery out
Hold power button as battery is replaced
You should now be in the "safe or recovery" mode
Take the battery out again
Replace battery
You should now see the setup / calibration screen, and option to reset as well.

Did you test the battery with a voltmeter while fully charged and not connected? Leaving it for about 4-6 and testing it once an hour? You may have a bad battery that is just dieing and won't hold a charge. Other wise, try cleaning the battery and the unit's connection pins with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. If that don't help, ether disassemble the unit and check all the wiring and check that there are no swelled up or leaking parts (capacitors or resistors) and make sure there are not bur marks on the circuit board.

Most likely you will end up needing to get a new battery.

If you check model with word battery on GOOGLE you will see it has a history of short life for the battery--usually if not accepting a charge two things to do:

1. Check the voltage with a meter coming out from the charger to the unit----it will be marked on charger AC (wall voltage) in and DC voltage out to battery.

2.) Several places sell higher rated longer life batteries for this unit, see link.

http://www.batterydepot.com/battery/RM-0010?gclid=CIWl7NzH-6MCFRpZiAodrVN8Hg

A lot of these companies use a poor quality battery that lasts a year or so and in some cases less.

Let me know if you have questions---a fairly expensive remote!

1. Your battery has lost it's ability to hold a charge and a replacement is needed.
2. You can contact the manufacturer or you can go to a Batterys Plus for replacement.
3. You may also have a damaged contact and a intermittent power adapter.
4. check the power supply adapter to see if it is charging properly

You either have one of two problems or both. You MUST check to see if there really is voltage coming out of your charger, with a Volt meter, light bulb, something to give you a real life indication or not, if it is working or not. Now if it is, then most likely you have a damaged chip in the battery that's causing the problems, either way you are going to have to obtain a new battery to see. IF your charger is NOT OK, then your battery may be good, but if the power supply is OK, then it is your battery. But as said it may be both. You must check.

Hello,

thanks for your additional information. This really helped to detect quickly where the fault was coming from.

Its very obvious that the fault is from the battery of the unit. The battery cell is weak such that it cannot be revived by charging.

To solve the problem, I would suggest that you look forward to getting a brand new battery. Once this is done, the unit will charge the new battery without any problem.

The battery presently in the unit is bad and it cannot hold charge. So do a battery replacement and problem would be solved.

Good luck.

my suggestion is that you allow the batteries to fully recharge(which only happens when the computer is fully off, when the battery is deep discharged.

that will take around 6 to 10 hours each..
