Turn the wheel towards you, not away from you. YYou must have lint or fabric caught in the shuttle, clean it out.

How can I fix a stuck needle bar on my Bernina 730?

If this is a Bernina 730 Record, it needs to be cleaned and oiled. Do not attempt to run the motor if the mechanics are stuck as it could damage the motor.

Consult your owner's manual in the Maintenance section, use only good quality sewing machine oil (NOT old stale oil, 3-in-1, WD-40, or cooking oil) and apply 1-2 drops every place that metal rubs on metal (while you hand-rotate the wheel). Pay particular attention to your problem areas--the needlebar area and the handwheel area (Do NOT oil the cams, the belts, or the plastic gears!!) To speed it up, you can direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanics. (You may have to repeat several times over several days depending how "stuck" things are.)

If you are impatient, try to find a bottle of liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube at the hardware store or bike shop and use it in place of the sewing machine oil. Once the machine is running smoothly again, you can use sewing machine oil or continue to use Tri-Flow in its place.

In the future, following the instructions in your manual, clean and apply 1-2 drops oil to the shuttle/race every time you change a bobbin (about every 8 hours of constant sewing), do a thorough but light oil as explained above every 40 hours of sewing, or if in storage or not in regular use, every 6 months. If it hasn't been used in a while, always give it some TLC before asking it to work for you.

The needle acts like it is hitting something but there are no threads.

Test: Put needle on straight stitch. Put needle all the way to the left and turn the hand wheel forward.
Now move the needle to the right and do this again.
Did the hand wheel move all the way for one of the two sides the needle was placed?
If your answer is yes then you need to get the machine timed.
Also, make sure that your brake used for winding the bobbins is tight. If it is tight then loosen the small screw (usually on front of hand wheel). Move the brake forward a little more to tighten and then tighten the small screw again. Look at my picture.

New Singer 1507- handwheel is stuck.

The bobbin might have a bunch of thread off it inside the compartment here the bobbin is. Also, make sure it's thread correctly, that can goof things up to.

Motor stopped; locked handwheel

Remove the needles. See if the handwheel moves now. Since it's a new machine, consult with the seller.

Kenmore sewing machine 15008100 not working

Was all well and working before you did work on the bobbin area ?

Ensure the machine is unplugged & bobbin winder is set OFF as there is a clutch preventing the needle arm to operate when bobbin winding......remove the needle.

If you take the bobbin and hook out, can you manually rotate the handwheel forwards ?

If yes, this suggests they are not inserted quite right, or the timing is out of adjustment.

Can you rotate the handwheel backwards ? On some machines the clutch allows for reverse travel freely, but only around the 15 degrees you mention forward when the top cover is off.....there may be a broken or dislodged spring unit/armature inside top near the handwheel and bobbin winder assembly that is acting as though the top cover is open (a safety feature)....generally towards the rear of machine and acting like a log thrown into a gear.

This may help straight away, or only just start to unravell the cause....

If you want any more help with this, just post back here, or, drop a line through the "Contact Us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au
