Hey Mary_13,
It sounds like there is damage to the lens, and you need to have it looked at by an authorized service technician. You can first try resetting the camera under the setup menu. You should also make sure there is nothing obstructing the movement of the lens when you are turning the camera on. If you purchased the camera in the last year it is likely under manufacturers warranty and the repair would be covered.

Sincerely,
Allan

I turned off my camera (Canon powershot G9). After 2 seconds i turned it back on the lens popped out but the camera wouldnt turn on. Now the lens is still popped out, wont go back in. I tried recharging...

hi would you tell me more about condition? does it power on, do you see back of lcd any message, if power on, then you have lens unit is defective. no power at all, then you have either power control pcd(dc/dc convoertor) or main pcb. If main fail, then you have to send canon factory. but lens unit or power pcb problem can solve in your local repair shop. They would chage you around $65 to 165 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

this is the most common problem with the olympus cameras the lens has been knocked and by you pulling on the lens it sounds like you have done some damage to the motor that bring the lens in and out thats why its making that noise what you needed to do was move the lens either to the left or the right you will no when its fixed because the lens just pops out and the camera will be fine this works every time i just hope you havnt done to much damage alredy goodluck

Fujifilm 2800 zoom

You need to go to a camera store and have them send it away for repair. Is she old enough to pay for it? It could be $100-$200 easily plus about $20 for shipping and a quote. No joke.

Lens cover stuck

If you're careful this problem is a relatively easy fix for many digital cameras. The design of the lens cover mechanism is usually simple and very similar throughout camera brands. Here's an example fix for a Canon A400 with similar problems:
