Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have a HP M5035XS that , as you are making copies, will change paper size. I've cleaned copy glass and ADF, tried to set maching for just one tray to make sure paper size stays same and checked every setting that I can think of. I've shut down and cold rebooted unit and reinitialized settings. What am I missing

The sensor that detects the paper size is possibly messing up, or it could be a slightly loose ribbon connector in side the unit.
Other than those physical possibilities, it could be a setting or software issue.
Here is HP's information on checking all the functions of this device, and hopefully it will help:
http://www.hp.com/sbso/product/mfp/demo/m5035-5025-text.html
The following is on the HP site:
Instructions
1. Load the mixed letter- and legal-sized originals into the ADF.
2. Touch Copy on control panel.
3. Touch More Options and select Original Size.
4. Touch Mixed Ltr/Lgl, then OK.
5. Touch Start Copy.
• What were your results? Did the sizes output appropriately?

You were probably doing that, but threw it in, just in case.
Here is another bit of info:
View and modify supplies status (Paper type)
Say you want to change the way the MFP handles the paper that is loaded in tray 2. This can be done by changing the paper type through the control panel using the Supplies Status button.
1. Touch the Supplies Status button on the home screen.
2. Touch the Tray 2 row to highlight.
3. Touch the Modify button.
4. Select Letterhead from the Type list; then touch OK.
• The Tray 2 row now reflects Letterhead as the paper type in tray 2.

Anyway, good luck with this problem, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

Copying 8.5x8.5 original thru document feeder and it doesnt aal print

Most copier has an APS (Auto Paper Selection) as default, 8.5 x8.5 is a square original, I would suggest you manually select the paper tray (e.g. Letter) first (this will temporary disable the APS for this session), then lay it down on the original glass, or ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

If you do not disable APS, you will have paper jamming problem, you do not have 8.5 x8.5 is th paper tray, of course, you may try it feed from the by-pass tray, set the the paper size to 8.5 x8.5 or special size ....... Each manufacturer has a different name for the same function (terminology).

Why is there a line on the left side of my copy when I use the ADF on my Canon Image Clas D1150? It does not do it when the flatbed is used. Please help. Thanks, Joann

When lines appear on copies of documents fed through the ADF, it typically means that there is some kind of dirt or foreign material on the glass that the document passes over. A different window is used when scanning from the ADF as opposed to the flatbed. The flatbed window is large, often much larger than a standard sheet of paper. The ADF window, on the other hand, is small and slender. It doesn't need to be large because the document moves over it (as opposed to the flatbed, where the document is stationary while the scanner moves under it).

The ADF window is usually situated next to the flatbed glass on the side of the scanner where the ADF takes in the paper. Open the scanner lid (as though you were going to make a copy on the flatbed) and find the slender piece of glass just under where the ADF would be when the lid is closed. Once you've located the ADF glass, use a mild glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to gently clean the surface of the glass. If you are able to see the foreign material, you can remove it by hand, but be sure to clean the glass thoroughly afterwards, as fingerprints can also cause poor quality copies.

After the glass has been cleaned, test the ADF copy function and make sure the line has disappeared. If it has not, you may need to remove the slender glass and clean the underside (though this is almost never required, as the underside is protected from environmental debris).

If you find this solution helpful, please leave a positive rating!

Horizontal lines/missing print occurs on my pages. I have tried to reboot the printer, but the printing issues remain. Do I need to clean the print heads?

Follow these steps to make it work... TIP: Focus on the printer it self. make sure that it can copy (b&w and color) fine.
If your done reseting the printer go to the next step Solution #2 Clean the All-in-One and make a blank copy Before you begin, gather the following materials:
  • Several clean, soft, lint-free cloths
  • Mild glass cleaner
Step one: Clean the scanner glass and lid
  1. Press the power Button to turn off the product, and disconnect the power chord at the back of the printer.
  2. Open the scanner lid, and remove any originals from the scanner glass.
  3. Spray a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with mild glass cleaner.
  4. Wipe the scanner glass and the white underside of the scanner lid with the dampened cloth.
Step two: Clean the automatic document feeder ADF
  1. If the product is not already off, press the Power button to turn off the product, and disconnect the power cord from the product.
  2. Locate the ADF frame to the left of the white underside of the scanner lid.
  3. Press the ADF frame release.
  4. Unhook and remove the ADF frame.
  5. Lightly dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with a mild glass cleaner.
  6. Use the dampened cloth to clean both sides of the transparent film, and the white strip in the center of the ADF frame.
  7. Clean the ADF frame.
  8. Re-Install the ADF Frame

Step three: Make a blank copy
  1. Remove any originals from the scanner glass.
  2. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
  3. Press Start Copy Black to make a blank copy.
  • If the copy is clean, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the copy has vertical bands, lines, or streaks, there might be dust inside the product, poor internal connections, or the product might be damaged. Contact HP's Printers support department @ 1-800-474-6836

Lines appear when making a copy using document feeder tray

If the lines are vertical (in the direction the ADF feeds, 11in long for 8 1/2 by 11) You can try cleaning the glass the scanner uses when it's using the document feeder. Pull up the top left part of the printer where the documents feed, there's a little rib in the middle of the side to help you do this, then simply pull up the assembly underneath with all the rollers in it, you should see about an inch of glass underneath and a centimeter long strip of white plastic on the assembly (this serves as the white background when feeding slimmer papers) Clean them both. I'd recomend any glass cleaner, just don't spray it in there, spray it onto a cloth.

Printing crooked from one drawer, and no option to print from another drawer

Try this spray on a little WD40 on the GLASS and wipe it off.
Yes, you heard me correctly, make sure you wipe it off leaving no residue, but it's still slippery.
the problem may be coming from the glass being too dry and the paper is getting stuckand shifting.
If the paper itself was going crooked it would get jammed or ripped. There is no room for the paper to go through the path crooked so the only way for it to copy crooked is somewhere in the optics.
try doing 1-2 on the glass itself and see if it copies crooked.
The envelope tray is a By-pass tray and can be used for any size paper. You can switch which tray it copies from on the panel tray button.

Black lines

Here you go.
1. Put a paper on the glass don't use the ADF see if you printed copy has a black line on it.

If you do not have a black line on it, do the following.

Lift up the ADF tray go in to additional functions #6 Adjust/Clean and then #2 clean the ADF feeder.

The roller is in the top of the ADF feeder at the right and is white in color. When you press the (set) button you will see it spin.

Also clean the glass you have some whiteout on it. (Look at the glass real good when cleaning it).
