Question about Canon PowerShot A85 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I've been using my Canon A85 for years. All of a sudden yesterday I was not able to download pictures from camera into the computer (running XP).Also tried the same on my portable (running XP) and it does the same. Both P.C. actually cannot see the device once USB plugged in and turned on (in play mode).I already tried to change the cable, still no joy !!!I figure the camera needs to be resetted (but how rather then taking the batteries out).By other hand camera is still functioning properly: taking pictures and displaying on the ccd. Please have you any idea ???Thanks in advance.Paolo Placucci,

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Unable to download pictures

In the short term you can take the memory card out and use a card reader - at least that will let you see the pictures.

Computer no longer recognizes my G9

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

i have the same camera but i want to use it like a webcam.
I found a driver that is located in the canon homepage, called "canon RAW codec"(compatible with Vista and XP), and it allows you to download the photos of the camera and to take fotos instantly, but it don't suport the webcam function...  :(  . I'm using it in windows XP.

That's all, Ithink that it must work for all the users.

Digital Zoom not working and screen is blurry

Your zoom probably does not come out all the way and therefore you get some blurry shots. Had the same problem on a Panasonic camera. Solution: replace zoom motor and gears. Results=expensive. Goes beyond the value of the camera. You might want to buy another used A85 or newer digital camera.
