Question about SeaLife DC500 Digital Camera
Unfortunately, the camera is a generic, very outdated and cheap Chinese model which may have been supplied under a variety of brand names that nobody has ever heard of, or which is more likely to be exclusive to SeaLife (at least in North and South America, Australia/NZ and Europe). Despite what at least one website claims, it definitely is NOT a rebadged Canon model and as it's only a 5MP, 3x optical zoom model with a poor battery life it's likely that even budget brands no longer sell this model. From experience with previous SeaLife digital models I know that the company will supply the camera alone, subject to stock, but as the housing doesn't cost them very much to have manufactured the discount isn't that attractive. Considering the very basic image and build quality of the camera it feels like being robbed but the company has you over a barrel...
If you can, buy a different model altogether as the DC500 casing does appear to be poorly designed and leak prone. I've known one dive buddy who discovered that the catch for the casing was easy to accidentally unlatch underwater and a couple of other friends have found that the seals around the buttons are leaky. Almost any decent modern compact with a suitable housing is going to be far superior and better value. One good example is the Olympus PT-048 housing which fits their "µ TOUGH-8010/6020" models. The basic camera is already waterproofed to some extent, so you have a degree of double protection if there are any leaks.
If you cannot afford to invest from scratch again then there are plenty of good Sea and Sea 35mm models which can be obtained very cheaply and if you use slide film and scan the results you can get far better pictures.
