Question about Mantis 2-Cycle Tiller

1 Answer

I was tilling an area. It quit. There was still gas in it. When I tried to restart, the cord would not pull. I checked to see if anything was wrapped around the blades or stuck between the blades and there wasn't. I tried again and the cord still would not pull. What should I try next?

Just plain gas or the proper gas/oil mix? Running a 2-stroke engine on straight gas without the oil mixed in will cause the motor to seize which would explain the starter cord not pulling.

It doesn't sound good. I would say that it probably seized up on you. The best way to determine that without tearing it apart is to ask yourself how it was running right before it quit. If it was running extremely well right before it quit, then you probably blew it up (seized)!

My Toro mower won't start. The cord will not allow me to pull it out all the way. It seems to be caught on something.

Disassemble the starting mechanism and remove the snag in the line that is preventing you from pulling cord all the way out. Till you do that, you will be pounding salt.

Release the high pressure in the hose by triggering the wand as you try to restart the engine.

I put reg gas in it & it ran rthen quit now the cord will not pull

Could have scored the rings, broken ring, or just cooked the piston to the sleeve, maybe melted the connecting rod to crank, damaged needle bearings. Most likely needs to be taken apart.

Yardman blower jut quit running like it was out of gas, restarted then did the same thing, now its difficult to pull the cord to strt

I'll guess and say that the carb flooded the engine and you have hydro lock.Pull the sparkie and clear the extra fuel.
The carb is at fault,IMO.
if the needle get a little dirt in there it will hold the float open and flood the motor.
Dirt.

2005 equinox died n won't turn over again.

As with any no-start condition, you first need to know if it is no spark or no fuel.
You could try spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid into the air cleaner hose to check for no fuel. Or pull 2 or 3 plugs and check for spark.
Also take a look at the ECM for trouble codes.
It could be anything from a plugged fuel line to the gas tank to a bad relay to a dead ECM.

Have an Echo PB-2100 blower. While using it yesterday, I turned it off put it down and it cooled off. Went to use it again and I could NOT pull the starter cord out. Took that part off and it works just...

pull your spark plug out and see if it rolls over and if the cylinder is full of gas,if it is full of gas pull it over till you don't see anymore gas coming out plug hole then put spark plug back in and try to start by holding wide open with choke off, if it starts, then you have a bad vent assy in tank, and or dirty carb to where needle is not seating,or bad diaphram which is stiff holding needle valve open in carb which will fill cylinder and crankcase with gas thus causing hydro lock. If this does'nt get it then check your flywheel for being loose. good luck

We started the snowblower 2 weeks ago now it will not even turn over, the cord wont budge either

Have you tried pulling the spark plug out? If it still will not turn over, then quite possibly if it is a 2 cycle the gas mixture wqas not right & it got to hot. Try putting some Marvel Mystery oil in spark plug hole 7 let it set for a while then try pulling the cord. I have gotten them to loosen up with this process. Make sure gas mixture is correct before trying to restart.

Poulan 18' model 2000 chain saw, quit running , will not start.

If you have a compression gauge, check the compression. Anything under 90psi is too low.

Check your flywheel key. If it is broken the flywheel will move and not fire at the correct time.

Note: if it does not sputter with carb cleaner then it's not your carb.

Next:
Remove your exhaust manifold. Look into the cylinder with a flash light. You are looking for scratches. Anything larger then a light fingernail is definite proof you need a new cylinder/piston assy.

If it passes that test do the following:

Pour mixed fuel straight into your cylinder until 1/4 full. Slowly pull your saw over while looking into the cylinder. If you see bubbles after the ring/rings go by then you need a new cylinder/piston assy. On rare occasions if no scratches are present on the cylinder wall or piston, you may be able to change just the rings.
