Popping in one cylinder , try a new plug first, it may be firing in the overlap stroke but shorting on the compression stroke, seen a bit of it. also look for a vacuum leak on the popping side

Not likely carb because both cylinders would act the same; not likely coil because both cylinders fire together, however could be wire/boot from coil, plug or low compression/valve adjustment. Premium fuel works miracles on small engines; try a couple of gallons, it will increase horsepower. Check compression and compare to good cylinder, if close, suspect plug or boot. If compression low, hope that valve adjustment will normalize. Good Luck

Carbon fouling spark plugs

Weak Spark, worn piston rings(Burning oil/compression issues), lack of compression, wrong spark plugs, incorrect spark plug gap, engine not reaching operating temperature (Due to short use), carb. is running rich (May need adjusting), dirty air filter (Causing carb. to choke and run rich). Bad gas
All these symptoms could lead up to fouling plugs.
Hope This Helps.

Spark plugs need cleaning after one lawn cutting

if it was an ignition problem then it should run poorly. The fouling of a plug is caused by a rich running unit which leads me to a carburetor issue feeding the cylinder more fuel then it can completely burn off. Without having the unit in front of me however, it is hard to say for sure.

1983 honda shadow vt500c Fowles plugs every 5 to 700 miles

If the plugs are fuel fouled then you should look at the carbs.sounds like running ritch. If carbs are OK then Check spark if it is orange it is week(should be whiteish blue). If the coils are producing spark but week the bike will run but eventualy foul the plugs because it can't burn all the fuel.

How do i set the carburetor on a Stihl FS-55 weedeater.

Over the past 8 years, the FS55 has had at least 5 different carburetors, and they have at least 3 different systems with different adjustments. Many of them do not have much of an adjustment and will not cure running problems. If you are experiencing poor running conditions, I would suggest some basic checks first. The spark arrestor screen is a big culprit on this model.

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Husqvarna chain saw Model 141 running at high rpm's

You may wnat to inspect the intake manifold/boot that mounts inbetween the cylinder and the carb. Also, the impulse tube that comes from the bottom of the cylinder to the carb manifold or carb itself. Sounds like you are running a lean condition. You need to locate the source very quickly, or continued operation will permantly damage the saw. I have listed a few other things to check.
Please let me know what you find. rwvanlue

What causes plark plugs to foul, they keep turning black after short runs. Could this be due to mixture being too rich. How could this be corrected. The bike was not run for a few months. I changes spark...

Plugs foul for a couple reasons, engine in poor condition (worn rings - poor compression), wrong oil, wrong plugs, bad riding conditions, cheap fuel, out of tune, carb out of tune.

You are not mixing your fuel with oil are you?

You might need a carb tune up (Id start by adding some injector cleaner to the fuel according to the bottle instructions.

You might put a hotter plug in your engine, one or two range increase.

If you will go to a good auto parts store, they will probably have a chart of assorted plug conditions and their cause. The counter man may be able to make a recommendation to you.

Engine hard to start gets hot and no power checked carbs their ok

fouled spark plugs...intake manifold leak... you could have a vacuum line come off or isnt on all the way. bad batch of gas..weak coils, or poor compression. or the choke could not be operating properly. also running too heavy an oil could cause this problem, you should run 10w40 only.
