Question about Philips 32PF9964 32 in. Television

2 Answers

Standby LED stays red.

I have a 30" version of this TV (similar model # 30PF9964), this is the closest model # listed. The power LED goes from yellow, to green, to yellow, and stays red. I can hear a relay click on and off.

Sometimes I can see the backlight flicker for just a split second.

Could this be an issue with the power supply (maybe not delivering the right voltages)?

I would disconnect the inverter from the power supply and see if the voltage on your power supply comes up, or status of the led in the front changes, it is more possible that the inverter is shorting down your power supply

This can be a combination of things. The main power supply may have failed, or there is a short putting it in to protect mode. It is also possible that the back plane supply and or lamps have failed.

TV won't come on, it just stays in standby mode The red led just blinks when you try to turn it on and hear a little whistling noise if you listen closely. I was thinking it could be a power supply issue...

Hi.

The TV staying in standby and the light flashing indicates that the TV is in fault mode (often called protect mode). This happens when an internal fault is detected, and the main board set the unit in forced stand-by with the led color changing.

Before doing anything else try disconnecting TV from power for ten minutes. Restart the TV with no device connected, leave it on for a while and see how it goes. Test the TV with different devices (eg. DVD, VHS,sat box, console etc .)

In your case it looks like there is no clear indication toward a particular fault. The TV coming on at random times, may point at a defective PSU, but other failures such as defective main board, overheating, defective inverter, or faulty Timing controller (TCon) may result in the same problem.

The most common fault that may cause the symptom you described is PSU. Unless there is clear sign that the PSU is damaged, this is still far from being enough to decide that PSU is the culprit. The power supply must be tested before replacing parts. Testing is done reading PSU out on different voltages. This is an operation that must be done by a trained repairer.

The high pitched noise may be given by a defective PSU capacitor. In that case the bulged or leaking capacitor is usually easy to spot looking directly at the PSU.

To book a repair call the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual.

The remote control will not operate the TV when the TV is in the OFF mode (No LED lit on front bezel). To change the mode from OFF to STANDBY or ON, press the POWER button on the side of the TV. Once the POWER button is pressed, the LED will change to either red to indicate STANDBY or green to indicate ON, whichever mode the TV was in prior to being turned off with the TV POWER button.

By pressing the POWER button on the side of the TV, the mode will toggle from OFF to either STANDBY or ON. If the POWER button is pressed and then the LED on the bezel is red, the TV is in STANDBY mode and will need to be turned on using the remote control. If the POWER button is pressed and then the LED on the bezel is green, the TV is ON.
