Hi,

This is a common problem with Canon and usually need servicing. You have already tried changing the batteries. Few tricks that we usually advise :-

1. Ensure batteries are fully charged.

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.

5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine .

Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec ..
in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.

If problem still persists, it could be a hardware failure or even a problem with electronic circuit board. In any ways, unless the camera is under warranty, it is not advisable to send it for repair as the cost of repair would be comparatively high as compared to the cost of the camera.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

If taking the battery out for at least 15 minutes, pressing the power button without the battery in the camera, and then after you put
the battery in the camera doesn't work to fix a problem you can reset the camera to factory settings like this:

  1. Press the "Menu" button. Press the right arrow once to highlight the "Setup" menu.
  2. Press the down arrow five times to select "Reset All." Press the "Set" button.
  3. Press the right arrow button once to select "OK." Press "Set."

I have a Canon Powershot A1100. After powering on camera the lens only partially extended then stopped. I'm unable to get it to retract either so it's stuck open. I replaced batteries but same...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

There is a one-year warranty on the camera if you purchased it new. Contact your regional Canon support facility, and they will be able to give you your options for getting the camera repaired under warranty.

Auto zooming on power up, intermittent problem

Possibly a intermittent connection in the control buttons or the ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connector from the controls to the main PCB.
Take it in for servicing, they will do a trial by substitution (swap out control) and lubricate the connector.
There isn't really anything you can do to fix with this sort of problem.

Cheers.

Camera turns on and appears to function, but wiil

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Canon PowerShot G2 buttons don't work

You have a bad button board . This is a single board with a series of small button switches that control all these functions. Most repair shop will charge around 75.00 to fix.

Zoom won't work

I have had the exact same problem develop with the A530- now twice!

The first time I had to send it back to Canon to fix it. According to the repair summary, what they replaced was, well, the entire control board...not many things breaking can cause the entire zoom/buttons to stop functioning aside from a control board malfunction of some sort.

Anyways, Canon fixed the camera, everything was hunky dory.

For six months. Then the problem developed again. When the same problem occurs twice in a row without any warning whatsoever, that's when I start getting annoyed and consider buying another camera.

So at least in my case, the solution to the problem was that it had to go back to Canon for repairs. I had an extended warranty on my camera, so I can't say how much it will cost to repair the problem. If it happens again like it did in my case...consider buying another camera.

Canon S70 does not work

I was experiencing the same problem - I think the Button and Zoom had become jammed down slightly. I simply lightly applied pressure lifting the surround of the button up! My camera is now working perfectly.
