Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a coil that needs to be replaced on a 2002 Goodman heat pump system. I know it's still under warranty, but the previous home owner didn't write the serial number down and the contractor says the number is worn off the unit. No one will honor the warranty unless I have a serial number. I have the outdoor unit number, but not on the indoor (which is the one I need). Any way to match the one I have up and come up with a number for the indoor? Already called Goodman..they can't help.

Give the dealer the cond. number and they can find the invoice for it and hopefully the evaporator was sold with it on the same invoice. Sometimes there is a number inside the indoor coil on a sticker

Heat pump runs on electric when outside temperature is higher than cutin

Check your thermostat and heat pump owner's manuals. Thermostat may be programmed to require electric heat at higher temps. Also could be bad outdoor temperature sensor tied to
Heat pump system controls (I had that problem) When was it installed? Warranty thermostat and or Heat pump? Call installer
Thermostat programming is a headache. No help from installer? call customer service heat pump and thermostat. Some possibility of bad installer wiring. There is also a heat pump "defrost" cycle. Usually the Electric coil will turn on to compensate for the Defrost cycle which is just the standard air conditioning mode therefore moves heat from inside to the outside coil to melt the frost. This cycle may be occurring too often. I had that problem. Fixed under warrantee.
Heat pumps are complex machines. The controls even more.
You need a tech, hopfully you are still under warranty.
Hope this helps.

Hi We have just arrived back in Wellington from overseas. Our house has a gas central heating system - the unit is Brivis Buffalo 20. What we would like to know is how cost effective the Brivis Buffalo 20...

Hi, if you are planning to change this system out, please stay with a gas fired central system as compared to a heat pump, they are much more cost effective. Heat-pumps have so many problems as there are more parts on them to go wrong. The compressor and condenser fan motor run year around as with a heat-pump they use what is called a reversing valve that changes the flow of freon making the indoor coil the outdoor coil and the same with the outdoor coil becomes the indoor coil in the winter season. I can recommend excellent gas fired units compared to the Brivis unit you have that is much more cost effective, such as the Bryant, Carrier, Goodman. I would go with a Bryant and talk to a dealer. Stay away from a heat-pump no matter what they tell you as I have worked on them for many years and if you have gas available, stay with gas. You will heat your home much faster and save on electricity as this heat -pump units need heat strips for back up heat as they can't keep up the temperature with out them. I hope I have been of help to you on this, and you will be kind when rating me as I know you will. Please contact a Bryant dealer as you will not regret it.
Sincerely,

Do you know how I can get a Goodman Ht pmp Manual

this manual willl not help your system perform better , have a qualified tech check your sub-cooling. temp diff, and match your piston with your coil. many goodman systems may say they are 3 or 4 ton but are half a ton smaller than advertised at the compressor. a three ton system will have a two and a half ton compressor

What do I do when my A-coil goes out in my Goodman condensing unit? How do you replace it?

You have to be certified in refrigeration. Its a sealed system and you need the correct tools to fix. I'm sorry but you will need a tech to fix that.

MY HEAT PUMP SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK IN EMERGENCY MODE

the thermostat sub base has a place to connect a wire usually white to energize the heat strips when you push the stat way hotter than the house temp. that is why the strips come on in normal heat. it also has a terminal that is only energized in emergency heat and it also should have a wire connected to it so that terminal can supply power to the strips when the stat is switched into emerg heat . you can identify the terminal from the wiring diagram and if need be jumper w2 wire over to the aux terminal and it will work. they both go back into the airhandler and power the same strips. w2..................................................................................................w2 in airhandler to strips or w2...jumper to aux......................................................................................................................w2 in airhandler to strips.
