Once the spring is missing, it never really becomes reliable. It isnt a train smash to replace but one has to be fairly mechanical minded. Firstly., remove plug from the wall socket then open the dishwasher door and remove the screws on the sides of the inner stainless steel panel.(about 12.) Once screws are out you can seperate the outer panel from the silver door. You will then see the soap dispenser from the inside.(Either screws are holding it in place or little clips.) Possibly it will have wires connected. Disconnect and take note what goes where. Once dispencer is off, reinstall new one in the same manner. You can but the spare part from the appliance repair dept..(Quote the model of the unit).

MY SOAP DOOR WONT STAY CLOSED

Soap dispenser latch problem.

a) Look at the latch whether there is build up of soap. CAREFULLY clean it. It might work.

b) If not just replace the whole dispenser unit. Not worth wasting time on trying to fix the spring problem. Most dispensers are $ 50 ~ $ 100 price range.

Ge nautilus dishwasher 165d5450p004 latch won't close

RoselsRose,
Thanks for the info about your grandson coming bye the dishwasher and messing with the dial! My son (14 month old) did the same thing and the soap dispenser door/latch would not stay closed. It just kept springing back open. I thought for sure the latch was broke until I saw your post and went to the outside dial and brought it back to off. Sure enough, the soap dispenser door stays closed. You just saved me an expensive repair! Thanks!

Whirlpool quiet partner I soap dispenser won't close

Hi

Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn't allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Newer (plastic liner) dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open. And, if this wax motor doesn't receive 120 volts, then it'll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip; also inspect the connections to these.

Hope this helps...

Soap dispenser cover latch will not stay in the hole. So now the soap holder will not stay closed.

It sounds like it may be stuck between cycle steps.(this sometimes happens if the washer is open during a cycle)Try and run it through one full wash cycle as it is.Then check to see if the soap door will close. If not,the lack may be broken
