Question about Kenmore 57029 Side by Side Refrigerator

We turned off the water to our house when we left to go out of the country. Now the ice maker won't work, yet the drinking water still dispenses out of the refrigerator. It seems like no water is going into the ice maker

What was suggested might have been the problem if the drinking water dispenser didn't work but it does. It seems like no water is getting to the ice maker itself. The ice maker doesn't work, but the drinking water dispenser does on the Kenmore Elite refrigerator. There is only one water line into the refrigerator and if it had an air bubble why would the water dispenser work.

Have not defrosted the freezer yet. A technician came to our house before and he did not defrost the freezer.

Hi.

If you turned off the water, then water has frozen at some point inside the fridge water lines and in icemaker inlet valve.

As first step try performing a complete defrost overnight. That will probably fix the problem.

If that does not help, please ask for further clarification. If that fixes the problem, please do not forget to accept the answer.

Best regards.

Ginko.

    Hi.

As stated probably is not a bubble, but likely frozen water, probably at the icemaker inlet. Problem is common.

Since there are too many guessers on Fixya the problem has been re posted by the admins.

Did you perform defrost? Did it help?

Please get back to me and let me know how it goes. In case I can give you precise indications on how to carry the repair.

    Regards.

    Ginko.

A technician will simply access the part and remove blockage, that is much faster. The user will better do defrost rather tan disassemblying.

Did you fix the problem by the way? Any part replaced?

Most likely the line to the icemaker has evaporated to a point so as to create an air bubble.
Here is the normal situation to check for a problem like this, taken from repairclinic.com:
The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve. First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve. In this case, I would shut off the water, and disconnect the line going to the icemaker, and fill the line to evacuate the air, then reattach it. Hopefull, this will restore the flow to your icemaker. Otherwise, the water inlet valve may have stuck or failed. Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

GE GSH25JFRF BB ice maker doesn't dispense. Water dispenses and ice maker makes ice but won't come out.

There should be a plastice hinge cover on the left top hinge on freezer door. Take it off and press the plug together firmly. Try that and let me know, Sea Breeze

Water won't dispense but ice maker works

Most likely the valve has failed. Usually located in the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom - otherwise, follow your water line (feed from the house water supply).

My water knozzle drips water all the time. The ice maker was jammed and in an attempt to fix it now the water knozzle drips. How do you turn off the water?

There is not an on off switch, and if you turn the house water line off, you won't have water to the ice maker. So if you want to turn only the water off to the fresh water dispenser, you will need to disconnect and then cap the water inlet valve for the water dispenser. To find it, just follow the house water line to where it connects to the water valve of the refrigerator. There will be two outlets on the valve (ice maker and fresh water) disconnect the fresh water line and cap it. You can purchase a cap from any hardware store.

Ice maker not working water is coming out through the front for drinking but water does not seem to be going up the line for ice in the rear of the frig

On units with both ice and water dispensing there is what is called a dual fill valve. One side of the valve can go bad, which allows water to dispense but no water flows to the ice maker. Common problem. Just search for the part using your unit's model number.

Water dispenser and ice maker don't work

You have a bad water filter housing. Be sure to turn of the water to the refrigerator before replacing this part. Replace the filter at the same time.

Ice maker not getting water after changing filter

Check the following:
Is the freezer door closed completely?
Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?
Is there ice in the storage bin?
Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?
Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?
Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket?
Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
bin.
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice?
Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer
compartment.
To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left) position.
To manually turn the ice maker off, slide the control to the OFF
(right) position.
NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker
sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the control will
remain in the ON (left) position

REMEMBER:
Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the
first three batches of ice produced.
The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of the
water supplied to your ice maker. Avoid connecting the ice
maker to a softened water supply. Water softener chemicals
(such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to
poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoided,
make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well
maintained

The Dispenser Lock (on some models)
Your dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent
unintentional dispensing by small children and pets.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the product, to
the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates the
dispenser levers. The ice and water dispensers will not work.
Style 1: Press the LOCK BUTTON to lock the dispenser. Press the
UNLOCK button to unlock the dispenser.
Style 2: Press and hold the LOCK OUT button to lock the
dispenser. Press and hold the LOCK OUT button a second time to
unlock the dispenser.
