Try [Fn]-F2
I had same problem here, then just tried alt-F2, ctrl-F2 etc until I found the right combo. Looks like the [Fn] key is what activates the other built-in Fkeys. In other words, "it's not a bug, it's a feature".

If it is only several weeks old, it should still be covered by warranty, and therefore you should be able to exchange it for a working one.

How to enter bios setup

The method to enter the bios menu on acomputer varies by make. it can only be done when the computer first starts and is achieved with a particular key press. it must be done before the operating sytem starts to load, usually within the first few seconds after turning on. this also can ony be done from a cold boot, not returning from hybernation for example. try tapping the F2 key or delete key, these are the most commonly used.

How can i disable the sleep button on the acer SK-962(B) wired keyboard? im using the keyboard for a makeshift MiDi controller right now and i keep hitting the sleep button on the keyboard. very ann

Unless you find a program to remap the keys.

There maybe software you can get from Acer to adjust the keys so that pushing sleep does nothing.

My function keys of hp probook 4420s is not working

You have to Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of your keyboard then hit the volume or brightness keys. Notice that the volume and brightness keys are the same color as the FN function key. That means you have to press and hold the FN key while you hit the volume or brightness key.

The f2 doesnt work on dell inspiron9300

do you mean the keyboard F2 key does not work? Change keyboard and test? Otherwise, it may be a two function keyboard where you need to hit a special colour key to get the function keys working. This special key is usually off to the side and may have some graphic indicating toggel between the first and second level of definitions of that physical key. This is true if you see more than F2 on that key.

We have a 4 month old Dell Vostro 220 desktop that when it powers-down in "sleep mode", it won't reactivate when move mouse or hit key on keyboard. The only way to turn computer back on is to hold power...

Have you tried just depressing the power button briefly rather than holding it down?

If so, the issue is likely a program that is preventing the computer from coming out of hybernation. Not likely anything to do with hardware.

I cannot use my keyboard and mouse. Something is wrong with my devices

Make sure the keyboard is working in bios. When you boot the computer hit f2 or Del. key to make sure the keyboard is working. Also make a note that the keyboards light blink while turning on the pc.

If you are able to go to BIOS that means the keyboard is working fine.

Boot your computer in safe mode by tapping F8 key while the computer is booting. Select safe mode and check if the keyboard and mouse is working in safe mode.

If it is working in safe mode. Do a system restore to a date where everthing was working fine.

Please revert with the result of above .

Locks up at the select user screen when booting up.

when did it stop working
look at your keyboard make sure it isnt locked or shutoff
usually needs fn key plus another key to turn it back on
or change anything. These keys would be located usually at the top of keyboard and there symbol will be the same colour as your fn key.
Did you upgrade your system
If you are still unable to get on I would do a recovery

Sleep mode PC continued...

VIA KM400A is the name of the motherboard chipset inside your computer.

I'm fully familure with that board.

1. on boot up hit delete or F2 key to enter the bios setup screen
2. once inside the bios setup screen , look for power management settings.

you'll know what to do at that point

You'll want to

1. turn power nanagement totaly off , which is not a good idea because windows considers
it a device in the system and loads a driver for it , so turning it totaly off MIGHT give windows
a heart attack.

2. set

Display Power Management Controled by Power Management = NA or NO

Turn off display after suspend or hybernate = NO

3. save and reboot

Thank you for choosing FixYa!
