We have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. My question is: when the engine is running, does the radiator fan run constantly or intermittently?

electric fans start to operate when the coolant temp reaches around 88 c and will run continuously while the coolant is above that temp
if you have ac then there is a fan that cools the condenser in front of the radiator and that will cycle according to the ac compressor cycles

The cooling fan comes on five minutes after starting

Unless you have the A/C on, that may be normal. The cooling fans only run once the coolant temperature exceeds about 215 degrees. It runs until the temp is down to about 200 degrees. The fans will cycle on and off as necessary to keep the coolant within that range. When the car is in motion, the airflow thru the radiator is normally sufficient to keep the coolant stable and the fans do not run. Only if you turn on the A/C will the fans runs constantly, since the A/C system needs constant airflow thru the evaporator.

Intertherm MGHA-070ABFC-05 will not run/cool

Multiple problems. Eliminate thermostat first. Remove face from wall and turn on breaker. If fan still runs you have a bad board or bad relay. If fan outside is running compressor should be too. These operate on same contactor. Verify you are getting 24 volts to coil side of contactor. If odf stops working and contactor remains pulled in you have a bad motor. If odf motor stops working the compressor will shut off due to overheating.

The side door is getting hot

Hello,
Pull the unit out away from the wall. Remove the bottom cardboard or metal cover that covers the compressor area. Assure that the compressor fan is working usually when the fan is not working the sides of the unit will start to heat. If the compressor fan is not working shut the unit off until the compressor cools. I have used a box fan while leaving the cover off on a unit to keep the compressor cooling while I had to wait for the new compressor fan motor to come in. DO NOT RUN THE REFRIGERATOR IF THE FAN IS NOT WORKING UNLESS YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO KEEP THE COMPRESSOR COOL like a fan constantly blowing on the compressor. If you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future. Thanks
Rick
