  1. Which pop-up blocker are you using? Internet Explorer 7 has its own pop-up blocker which I suspect you are talking about. If you have spyware on your computer you can still get popups. Download, install, and run Hitman Pro. This will run several anti-malware programs automatically for you and clean up almost anything hiding on your computer that could cause this.
  2. Malware can prevent you from updating Windows Update. After running Hitman Pro try it again. If you still can't then you may need to re-enable the Windows Update service. right-click on My Computer and select Manage. Expand the Services and Applications category on the left and select Services under it. On the right, find the Automatic Updates service and make sure that it is started. If not, right-click it and select Start.

Popup blocker has three levels of strength, low, medium, and high.

In high, all pop ups are blocked, and if this is your desire, then open internet explorer, choose Tools / Pop up blocker settings / and toward the bottom of the screen you will see an option to set the pop up block level to 'high'.

If this is not the problem, and you still have pop-ups, then you most certainly have spyware / adware on your computer.

In this case download 'Spybot' (google for it), install, update, and 'scan for problems'. This is totally 'freeware', and will never cost you money.

Watch as it digs out severe problems from your computer and the pop-ups disappear.

How do I remove unwanted pop ups?

Internet pop-ups can be an annoyance. These windows are usually associated with different forms of advertisements and at times can include viruses that can infect the computer. Pop-ups do not have to be a part of computer use if the user does not desire this distraction. There are ways to stop pop-ups and prevent them from appearing unless desired. Pop-up blocker allows the user to block these items and select which items to allow.

Open Internet Explorer. Click "Tools" from the menu bar. Tools can be found on the bar that lists "File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help" directly beneath the address bar. Click "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. Click the "Privacy" tab in the "Internet Options" box. Click to check the box that says "Turn on pop-up blocker" in the "Pop-up Blocker" section of the menu. Click "Apply" to save changes. Click "OK" to close the "Internet Options" box. The computer will now block all pop-ups from websites. If downloading items from the Web, the computer will ask whether you would like to allow these items to be opened. Hope this helps.

I cannot access my internet banking because of pop up blocker

Your pop-up blocker is a function of your browser settings. Go into the settings menu and either disable the pop-up blocker or make an exception for the site you want to use. Depending on your browser you can select the level of protection that your pop-up blocker gives you so that it will actually allow pop-ups for stuff you actually click on to pop up.
