Dirty Edges Hi: I am getting a dirty or smudged edge on all copies. I just replaced the toner cartridge and the drum counter shows 3500 remaining copies. I even put in the old toner cartridge but the scattered smudges on the edge turned into a solid black smudge. I could actually feel the toner it was so thick. Is this a toner cartridge or drum issue? I keep the machine pretty clean. Thanks

The corona wire was one of the first things I tried. It actually had a build-up of toner on one side after the cartridge switch.

And ErikO you were right. I made a couple of calls and it does look like the drum. The drum was remanufactured so the copy count is inaccurate. The machine is a workhorse so I really can't complain.

    Thank you!

If copies / printing is creating streaks or blotches, the corona wire may be dirty.
Here's how to clean the corona wire:
Note: If you have an alternate paper tray, lower that first.
1. Open the side cover.
2. Remove the green corona wire cleaner from inside the machine (near the front corner of the machine).
3. Insert the corona wire cleaner into the corona wire unit.
4. Wipe the corona wire with the corona cleaning tool, by sliding it back and forth across the corona wire slowly and carefully.
5. Replace the cleaner and close the side cover.
This should resolve your problem.

I'm sorry to tell you, this is likely a drum issue.

You probably need to have a certified engineer examine the machine.

Have you tried speaking with the local service center to see if they have experienced similar issues? It might be free information.

Quilt y of print !, it gives double printing on page one is print of original doc.& second as its image what should i do to improve its print quilt y. i will be thank full to you

Hi,
Dots, Lines, shadows and smudges on the printouts are due to dirty/ deteriorating cartridge and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines.
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and ther is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots. Double printing is also due to the deteriorating cartridge. The drum is not getting clean after its each rotation and hence the remaining toner/ image is transferred to the paper resulting in double printing. So, it is recommended that clean the drum etc (this would help temporarily). Also, make sure that the toner cartridge is in good working condition. If not you may replace the cartridge.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

GoodLuck!

Please describe how to clean dirty edges on the paper from my KM2430DL printer.

Inside these machines is a rather large, black sheet that is known as the transfer belt. This belt acts to transfer the toner from the drum to the paper, Though if the outside edges of these sheet become worn or mucked up with excess toner, it will produce a copy with vertical bands of toner. In order to attempt to clean this belt, you must first shut the machine off, then open the from cover and locate the transfer belt (may need to remove the toner in order to make it visible,) then, with a damp cloth (water) gently wipe it along with the grain of the belt. Repeat this step until no residual toner appears on the transfer belt, then reconnect everything and print several test pages. If the problem does not reappear, then you are all set. However, if the dirty edges begin to come back, you will need to replace the transfer belt as the wear marks on it are trapping toner and not allowing it to be cleaned properly.

Please keep me informed on your progress and I will help the best I can.

We have a Canon PC 400 copier. When making a

Remove the toner/drum cartridge. Carefully rotate the drum, via the end with gear, to check the edges for toner spots like appear on the copies. If located on drum, GENTLY wipe off with a dry cotton ball. Reinstall cartridge. Check to see that spots are gone. If spots reappear, replace with new cartridge (drum most likely damaged)

Ink on copy

The best way, if you wan't to do it yourself, is to unplug the copier. Open it with the green lever on the left middle side and gently pull it up. Suspension chuck will hold'im up. Gently vaccum the toner in the copier and when the most of it as been gone, take a air compression can and blow in to it...Watch out because it very dirty job !

P.S With the vaccum, be very carefull to not scratch the drum...

Printed pages look dirty

That black dust that fell out is the toner. When you shake a toner cartridge that shouldn't happen. It looks like you have a faulty toner cartidge and that need to be replaced! Now to make your printer prints cleanly and clearly after you replace the cartridge, you'll need to get someone to service the printer(the faulty toner cartridge more than likely spilled toner on your internal printer parts, cause the smudges). Sevicing would mainly entail, taking down the printer and removing any spilt toner! If you feel you are up to this, be cautious, because toner can be hazardous to your health if you accidentally breathe it in! hope this was helpful! regards babb
