I cannot get the philips 'convert to .wmv' program to work - when it tranfers to the player an error message says ' file format not supported use the philips file converter' although i already have ? this is the second player i have had from argos and i'm considering asking for my money back very soon as this is getting very frustrating.

- Hello there and thanks for the response
The file types I am trying to convert are .avi.
I am using the Arcsoft converter that came on the cd with the player.
The model number of the player is 'SA6185/02 and shows in the arcsoft converter and on my computer as a 'SA61xx'
I have not tried .VOB files yet but will do soon.
Thanks
Derek Brown.

What file type are you trying to convert to .WMV?

Also, are you using the Arcsoft video convertor? If not, it should be on the CD.

I think the Philips convertor was only for the SA31XX range.

If you are trying to convert .VOB DVD files, then it will not work directly from a bought DVD as it is copy protected.

It's unlikely to be a fault with the player.

I have just run the Arcsoft Convertor with a DivX encoded .AVI file and it processed correctly.

One possible cause of this problem is that you may not have DivX codecs installed on your PC.
To check this, try playing your .AVI file in Windows Media Player. If it doesn't play, then you will need to download the necessary codecs. Try www.divx.com

If it plays ok, then continue---->

I assume you are trying to convert and transfer directly to the SA6185.

In this case try converting the file before connecting the player and transferring:

Open Arcsoft Media Convertor
Drag the .AVI file into the program window
Click the "Select Player:" drop-down menu and select SA61xx manually.
The "Convert To" setting should default to Folder.
The default folder setting is My Documents/Arcsoft MediaConvertor/

Click "Convert" to start the process.

If this works, then when the process has finished, navigate to the converted file.
Connect the player to the PC, and drag & drop the .WMV file directly into the Video folder of the SA6185.
Disconnect the player when the display says "Ok to disconnect" and restart.
Go to the video option and your movie should be listed and ready to play back.

If the Convert process doesn't work then, the file is most definitely the cause of the problem. If so, post again with details of the file, and how it was created.
