Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Computer freezes up randomly about 1x per week, can be in IE, Word, windows life mail, etc. Only way to get rid of it is by cold shut down. Also audio and video can also freeze up, this happens perhaps 3x per week. Computer is a brand new Dell Studio 1749, started using around 7/4/10, problems above started around 7/24/10. Have removed MS Office 2002 which is incompatible with Win 7 and installed MS Office 2003 which is compatible with Win 7, 64 bit. Also looked for incompatible drivers didn't find any with the limited search that I did.

Do you think computer is running hot? computer is freezing up or running slow could be a heat issue.

If it is not then try for updating the bios from dell support website - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz&ServiceTag=&SystemID=STUDIO1749&os=BIOSA&osl=EN

also try to find out if there is any third party software which you might installed in your computer which is not compatible.

A blue screen error usually comes up on Windows 7 when there is a serious hardware or software issue that may be causing Windows to Shut Down unexpectedly. At times, a message may also come up on your screen saying "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

Problems with random shut downs, freezing (especially while playing media) and touchpad randomly stopping

You may have to many running processes, use this procedure to speedup Windows Vista: http://www.pcworld.com/article/143538/windows_vista.html Make sure your Windows and Dell Updates are current and up-to-date. Have you cleaned the fan, vents, and heatsink with Compressed Air? Is the Laptop getting sufficient air flow? Use these two freeware programs to cleanup your Laptop. 1, CCLEANER: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Use the cleaner and registry to remove junk and free up HDD space. In the TOOLS section, select STARTUP, disable ALL unnecessary startup/running programs, this will free up memory. 2, MALWAREBYTES: http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In the install, UNCHECK the Trial Pro version, you want the freeware version, run a FULL scan, delete ALL results, reboot. You can find ALL your Dell Drivers here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/inspiron-1545

Partical incompatability-messed up whole computer-freezes,internet messed up-wont let me delete program out-message keeps appearing!!!

I, myself have had nothing but problems when I downloaded Internet Explorer 9! I got rid of it. The best way to get rid of IE 9 once you have downloaded it is to go to Windows Update, click " view update history", click "Installed Updates" and once they all appear, find Windows Internet Explorer 9 ( Under Microsoft Windows, which is below Microsoft Visual C & Microsoft Silver-light 1, among others ) and uninstall it! It is quite very simple and IS the only way to get back to IE 8 ( If that is what you had previously, otherwise it will default to IE 7. BTW, very easy to re-install IE 8! ). For some reason, once you start using Google Chrome browser, it is best to simply avoid Internet Explorer! I use Google Chrome & love it! I also use Mozilla Firefox! Sometimes we must use Windows IE since it is the browser which came with the computer. But I would avoid IE 9 and just not download it again once you are rid of it! No matter how much Windows/Microsoft tells you that you need to download it! Hope you have your computer running efficiently again! arjay8tch (Richard Holt)

My laptop keeps shutting off it is a hp pavillion dv6000

1- Scanning computer to eliminate malwares, spywares and the viruses from your laptop.
2- Repairing and cleaning Windows registry.
These two tips are found to be very helpful to fix the laptop shutdown problem. Almost all the computer users surf internet which could result in viruses attacking your system. Some of these infections are really pesky and cause the machines to shutdown randomly.
The registry errors, however, are the internal errors and can become a cause of system crashes and freezes. The registry keys shall be in good health to keep a system perfect.
When I noticed my laptop keeps shutting down everytime, I tested the Intel Software Partner, RegInOut to fix the random shutdown problem with my laptop.

My computer shuts down at random intervals, most of the time it happens when a larger program or someting with a large grafix demand is running, but their are times when it will shut off when nothing is...

Hi, Random shut down is usually the hard drive. You need to get it tested at a repair shop and ask if it could be repaired or if you will need a new hard drive. If it's not too big of a problem yet, they might be able to do a lowlevel format which will eliminate bad sectors and do a new install. However, if there's too many bad sectors, it might need to be replaced. Good Luck and let me know what happens.
