Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My travelmate 240 will not connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. I have a bt home hub with a wireless laptop and PC with ethernet cable running OK. I have tried with the known good ethernet cable but still no luck. I have checked the TCP/IP settings in Network connections (XP) but no good. It seems to receive updates OK but will not display web pages. Any ideas ?

Hi,

The best way to check if the computer can access to Internet is to boot the computer to "Safemode with Netwroking", to do so, restart the computer and as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select "Safemode with Networking" from the Advance boot menu. Try to connect to internet. If you are able to connect to Internet then the issue is with the firewall on you computer, contact the firewall manufacture or do settings. If you are still unable to connect to Internet, then the internet setting are not correct, you may need to contact the ISP or try reseeting the Internet Explorer.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi. We are trying to setup a phillips tv through a bt vision box please

  1. A TV aerial feed - The BT Vision box gets its digital TV signals over-the-air, so needs a TV aerial. This needs to be connected to the aerial input socket on the V-Box. There is an output RF aerial socket to allow you to connect an aerial feed to a TV if required.
  2. SCART lead - You need to make a connection from the Vision+ box to the TV using a SCART lead. If you have a HD TV set, you can also connect via an HDMI lead (not supplied).
  3. Connection to Broadband - You'll need to connect from the BT Vision+ box to a BT Broadband connection. This is done using the BT Home Hub. The Home Hub is the Broadband router supplied by BT, and it connects into to your phone line to give you Internet access-The most common way to make the connection, is to connect an Ethernet (networking) cable from the BT Vision+ box to one of the Ethernet ports on the Home Hub. If you can't make a direct connecting to the Home Hub, you can use powerline adapters to make the connection. The self-install kit includes two Powerline adapters to allow you to connect to the Home Hub if it's in a different room to the BT Vision+ Box.
  4. The BT Vision v-box has an additional scart socket, which can be connected to a video or dvd recorder.

Associate wireless router to my home hub

If your Home Hub is a BT type internet hub, then you can connect the WAN port to the Ethernet port on the Hub.

This means it will go through two routers. One in the Hub and another in the Edimax. The Edimax needs to be configured as a bridge, because you need to keep within the same address range as the BT router. The Edimax DHCP allocation of IP addresses need to be disabled. This is not on the web site.

Hi, since having a new BT home hub, my inspiron 6400 will not connect wirelessly unless I do a 'repair' with it. Sometimes it detects broadband but wont connect wirelessly. My son changed the channel...

Most people have to just work out the configuration by them selves BT do offer a lot of support (0800 022 33 22) Their equipement is pretty good and widely used.
By the way the most least used channels are 1,6,and 11 there might be a default but these are the most complete channels which do not overlap(RE;
cnannel 1]--2.412 Centre frequency(ghz)
channel 6]--2,437
channel 11]-2.462

Can I connect my HP PSC1510 to my BT Homehub v1?

yes, you can. I have my printer connect to my hub and my desktop and I can print from my laptop wirelessly.
You will need your all in one connected via a printer or USB cable to a computer AND also connected to your hub. Then, go to the computer that is connected through a cable to the all in one. Your all in one should have some way to configure its IP address. I have my printer configured as 192.168.1.4 and it's plugged into the 4th port of my hub. Check if this works.

BT HomeHub wireless router which cannot connect to the XBox 360

your router may have incorect connection settings. what i mean is that your router may have security on that rejects connecting to adapter. check if the xbox can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. this will tell for sure if the 1 the adapter cannot read the signal or 2 the adapter is not able read any signals. to test if its the adapter, try searching for other signals.if you find any other signal it means your router. is rejecting to send the signal to the xbox.

I CANT GET CONNECTED TO BT HUB

have you typed the key exactly? viz uppercase/lowercase. The switch(hub) might have MAC address filtering on. also check if the switch(hub) has a DHCP running, which allocates IP addresses, if not you need to set your wireless connections IP address within the same range as the switch. If all else fails attempt to connect the switch via a utp network cable which should have been suplied with the switch(hub) so you can access the switch and make the necessary changes... email me on djtracer@vodamail.co.za should you need more info.

How to add Wirless & Ethernet connections?

The only difference in using a wireless hub is that it will go between your router and your computer. The advantage is you can take your computer anywhere within range and connect using your computers wireless card (if you have one).
You won't need any more equipment or memory and most wireless hubs come with instructions. If they didn't give them to you, just Google the manufacturer and model of the hub and you should be able to find them easily.
After you've set up the wireless hub (which you can still connect to via your ethernet cable). your computer should notify you of wireless networks available. You have a utility to set this up within the control panel.
Let me know if this helps

Wireless connection problem

BT is right, the fault is at your end, because you can connect to the Internet with an ethernet cable.
You have lost your wireless connection with the wireless hub.
This could be low signal strength (especially if the wireless access point is in one part of the house and your laptop is in another room)
OR Your laptop wireless card has lost its wireless access configuration.
Check your laptop wireless configuration, check your signal strength, check your SSID, check your security (WEP or WAP),
Have you got MAC address filtering.
Go to control panel, click on network connections, right click on Wireless Network, Click on repair (might fix your connection problem), Else right click on Status (should give you indication of how your wireless is functioning or not functioning).
Check your TCP/IP settings is set for "Obtain an IP address automatically"
Without more information it is difficult to identify exactly what is wrong with your connection.

Xbox360 connection

Yes, you are able to connect your 360 using a hardwired connection. In fact, it is even faster that way!

Your BT Home Hub has two ethernet jacks on it, for use with whatever devices you wish to connect to the internet (in this case, your 360). Simply plug your 360's ethernet cable into the jack, and voila! You can now access Live. However, if you wish to host games over live, you may need to open up certain ports for Live to use.

The ports are listed at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874

A manual for using and setting up your BT Home Hub is at:

Near the bottom of the page is a link for the PDF version of the manual.
