Question about Computers & Internet
The last suggestion from ikkenom is the most likely culprit. The most common problem is that some of those emails are going to your Spam or Junk folder.
If that is happening, your email program should tell you how to prevent that.

People send messages from their computer to their ISP's mail-server -- compare to dropping an addressed letter into a US Postal Service mailbox.
Then, the ISP's mail-server tries to send the message to your ISP's mail-server -- compare to the US Postal Service transporting a bag of messages from the "source" city to the "target" city.
Hopefully, your ISP's mail-server is "accepting" messages from the other ISP. This can take a while -- imagine the volume of E-mail from HOTMAIL customers to YAHOO customers!
Then, your computer tries to "pull" the message from your ISP's mail-server onto your computer. Hopefully, this works.
Finally, your E-mail program may be doing "spam-filtering", and may put the incoming message into the 'Junk Mail' folder.
Have you looked in that folder?
So, there's lots of "opportunity" for messages to be "stuck" someplace. Without explicit details, and log-files from the sender's mail-server and your ISP's mail-server, it's impossible to be more precise.
