My Presario CQ61 is switching on to what apears to be standby mode, but the screen is blank...i have charged this up but still doesn't seem to change

Some computers, or laptops, are design to get up from sleep mode, pressing the on /off bottom.
try it.

There are two Home keys.

Go to the Home button to the right, of the Delete key.
(Which is to the right of the Insert/Scroll key)

Has prt scr under Home.
Also use Fn key.

(I just used the Zoom In feature. You just set your mouse cursor in the middle of the photo, then move mouse cursor around)

accu Compaq Presario CQ61 100 percent compatible with you Compaq Presario CQ61. I bought two Compaq Presario CQ61 batteries from http://www.accukorting.com/compaq-presario-cq61.html two weeks ago, I felt very surprised, because it fits nearly as good as the original battery.

Seems that your battery is good but your electronics have gone bad. But just to be on safe side you might try another battery since a battery that does not charge fully could be responsible for erratic electronic operation of components.

I had this problem, the screen would turn on for a few seconds then shut off. I found the magnet inside the display bezel had fallen out of it's slot and was stuck to the inverter. This magnet is how the laptop knows the lid is closed. Of course, when the laptop is closed it shuts off the screen. I secured the magnet into it's slot inside the bezel around the screen with a bit of glue. The magnet attracts some kind of switch on the inverter board when the laptop is closed and when it fell out of it's slot and stuck to the inverter it made the switch all the time whether the laptop was open or closed. The laptop works normally now.

contact hp tech support and give them the serial no and product no of the notebook...battery connectors have gone bad

this is a regular problem with compaq presario cq?? series . There won't be any problem with the laptop. you will only have to change the adaptor.

Charge your battery, it's empty. If you get this message even after you have charged it then the battery has aged and it can no longer hold its charge so you must replace it.

Its in standby mode, hold on / off button down till all lights go out then switch back on.
