Question about Garmin Fishfinder 400c With Dual Beam Transducer

1 Answer

Have just installed a Garmin 140 on a tracker alum. boat. I have the transducer what appears to be at least 3/8 " below bottom of transom. I lose the bottom at least 40% of the time. Do I need to go further into the water or less? Do I need to adjust the angle of the transducer? It is parallel to the ground when on trailer.

I would recommend having the back part of the transducer a little higher (toward the sky) than the nose of the transducer. When I say a little, I mean a very slightly. This way the nose of the transducer pushes the water and any bubbles away from the face.

Y cant i mount my structure scan transducer on the bottom of the boat

This is what the manual says:
The StructureScan transducer can be mounted on the transom,
jackplate, step or directly to your boat's hull.
When mounting it directly to the hull, you must purchase a high-
quality, marine grade above- or below-waterline sealant/adhesive
compound.

No transducer

Make sure the plug that gives this unit power is secure. Also I think this device has a 2ft branch that goes to the ducer. Make sure that's right too

Think of where the transducer is fitted on your boat . As turbulence is the only problem you need to worry about. It needs too be on the transom but in between the lower 2 chines

Sonar is working erratically. Loses bottom and flashes. Anything to do other than replace the transducer?

I have a very similar problem. Unfortunately my boating season is over until next May. I found I was at software rev 2.30 and should be at 3.40 Some of the software updates were to resolve sounder problems.

Sonar not working properly, intermittent

Generally, that indicates air bubbles in the water under the transducer. If you have a transom-mount transducer, make sure the bottom surface is level or angled slightly down. If you have a thru-hull, make sure your bottom is fairly clean in that area.
