Do you have the adapter for DSL? If you don't have an adapter to get a standard phone signal, the fax machine won't recognize anything. The DSL connection is fine for your DSL modem that your computer connects with, but the fax machine, even in an all in one, has to have the adapter to be able to work. Most of the time you can obtain these adapters from the company you have your DSL service through. I am curious why they did not suggest this to you.

We have used DSL, and had to have the adapter to be able to use either a standalone fax machine or a standard modem.

Will the HP 6210 work with VOIP and Win 7?

Hi,

HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One is not tested on VOIP connections when it was in manufactured. However these printers do work with VOIP connection.

If you are unable to get the printer working on VOIP connection, there are few ways to fix this.

1. Reduce the Fax speed of printer ( from Setup - Basic Fax Settings - Fax Speed ). Try to Fax
If this does not work, try the step below

2. VOIP is Digital technology and HP 6210 works on Analog Signals ( standard telephone line )
- You need a DSL Filter which converts the Digital Signals to Analog and vice versa. This filter is available at any departmental store or computer accessory shop

- Connect the DSL Filter to phone socket. Connect the printer telephone cable to Analog port of DSL Filter ( to Line 1 Extn port of printer )

Either of this should fix the solution. However there is another solution which may or may not be possible. It is to reduce the baud rate on your Cable connection ( though not recommended )

Regards,
Shawn

We have the L 7680. Last week we changed from ATT dsl line with filter to ATT Uverse. They installed. With the change, our fax stopped working in/out. It reads as No Answer from outbound attempts and...

The Uverse service appears to be all digital - so any voice/phone channels are going to be VOIP....not real analog lines as you had before. So, you need to connect the HP fax to a phone line service. Did ATT provide you a phone number? (or perhaps 2 phone numbers) Then the fax should be connected to that line. If you are unsure, then connect a phone to the provided line and listen for dial tone. If you are connecting a fax to a VOIP line then a good suggestion is to drop the fax speed to 9600....this will provide more reliable connections. Hope this helps

Can fax out fine but how do I fax out?

hi thanks for using fixya!

Please check you settings from your device, and please check your connections like your cable that connects from the wall jack to your device. Is there any other device connected to your fax?
And check your telephone line as well.

If you need further, let me know.

Unable to send faxes with HP Officejet 7310xi All-in-One

Fax machines are analog devices and will not work reliably on a digital phone system.

I can;t received faxes on my computer

Are you using DSL connection or Dial-up?
What OS are you using?

The fax line and voice line are using the same frequency so you should be able to fax directly from your pc fax modem when using Dial up connection but in DSL the data and voice are using different frequency. So in normal situations you wont be able to fax using DSL modem unless you use a separate fax machine.

However, if specified during the set-up of the DSL line, the signal can be separated so that some of the bandwidth is used to transmit an analog signal (for voice and fax) while the remaining bandwidth is used to transmit digital data. This allows for the use of the telephone or fax, and computer on the same line and at the same time. When inquiring about DSL with the service provider, specify the desire to use the phone line for voice or fax calls while connected through the computer to the Internet.

Reference the following setup options for using a DSL line with HP all-in-one or fax products.
