No; if you only have dial up the speeds let alone the complications of setting it up plus will be so slow it will become enervating; most web sites will time out etc.

I am 14 and was playing xbox live, it shut me offline and when i diagnosed the proble it said my mtu setting need to be at least 1364, how can i fix that?

MTU is the maximum size (in bytes) a protocol is able to send. Not super familiar with xbox but I would check under your network settings. Although I doublt the xbox will allow you to set this. So the next step would be to check your router settings. You will need the following
  • A PC or laptop
  • Ethernet cable
You will need a computer plugged in via ethernet into your router.
  • Open a browser and enter the gateway address in the address bar
  • You can obtain your gateway address by going to a command prompt and typing "ipconfig"
  • Login to your router (if you've never setup the router with a login it will probably be a generic login such as admin/, admin/admin, / or /admin
  • Look for your MTU setting, this is generally under the advanced settings
  • Set it to 1500 if it is not already.
Please comment with how the xbox is connected to your network as well Comment back if you need more assistance
Another cause of xbox live booting you is if someone logs into your xbox live account else where as xbox live only allows for one login at any give time.

I'm in the middle of my afternoon internet time, (2pm-6pm daily) & my belkin wireless router's internet light begins flashing & I then lose connectivity, what could it be? A driver issue maybe?

it could be. i owned a wireless router one time, (a fairly cheap one) and it was under almost constant, heavy usage (2 - sometimes 3 wireless laptops, 1 desktop and xbox live) and one day it just gave out. it could be a driver problem, but what i would do is unplug the router, let it set for 30 seconds or so, then plug it back in. this almost always fixed any router i stumbled across.

I live in a two bedroom apartment. My wireless router is located in the living room and my main computer is located on the far side of the apartment in the far bedroom. I'm only getting about a 20 percent...

Can you rotate the computer, so that the antenna in your computer is physically closest to the router?
If your router has a single-pole antenna, make sure that it is vertical -- the signal goes "sideways" from the antenna.
If your router has more than one antenna, follow the manufacturer's directions for pointing each antenna (typically a 'V' for twin antennas).

Access the router's built-in web-interface, and confirm that the router is transmitting at 100% power.

Do I need a wireless router to connect to the internet on a Toshiba L645D-S4056

Not strictly speaking.
You can use a wire instead if you have a port (hole) for ethernet plug (slightly larger than a phone port).
In coffee shops you'll be using wireless, but they provide the router.

My laptop dont detect wireless coneccion

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop/desktop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Windows live sync will not connect

This is the last IP before it his the service provider. Basically your modem router IP will be the gateway.

I had a similar problem configuring an IP webcam. The camera had a built in router and was wireless. So the footage captured went through its own router, over wireless, into another router (the modem) and out over adsl. I had to put the modem/router IP into the dns box on the camera menu.

Hope this helps

I am trying to set up xbox live for my son but when i try to go live on the xbox dashboard it says that wireless network not connected but i have a wireless network running in my house and need to know how...

  1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.

  2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

  3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.

  4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)

  5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
  6. Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.
Tips:
  1. Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.
What You Need:
  • Active Xbox Live subscription (to access services)

We have just bought a Belkin N wireless router and have had nothing but problems. Trouble running xbox live, conecting up two laptops it seems that it cannot stay connected to the modem without loosing the...

Shut each network device down, then pull the power from the Modem and Router, wait a minute and power up the Modem, then wait another minute and start the Router, then you can fire all computers and Xbox. Keep in mind what your Bandwidth is and how much each device is using when you encounter problems and consider disconnecting unneeded devices when one device requires more. I know the last part should have nothing to do with your losing signal question. And you'll have to consider the distance each wireless device is from the "N" router also.
Did you have another router running without these problems before installing the Belkin N router?

MY LAPTOP IN NY LIVING LOST ITS CONNECTION TO THE ROUTER..BUT I SAW A DIFERENT ROUTER NAME...WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

It sounds like your running wireless. Go to where you saw different router name. It probably should be an icon on your taskbar. If this is the case, right click on the icon and clink on show available wireless networks. Yours should be listed. The laptop may have connected to someone elses or a wireless nic card you have in another pc or someone's close bt. Just click on your network and say connect. This should fix your problem. Any other questions just add a comment and I'll be glad to come back and help.
