ROUTER i have dail up where i live thats all i can get now can i still use a router for my laptop?

No; if you only have dial up the speeds let alone the complications of setting it up plus will be so slow it will become enervating; most web sites will time out etc.

I got a used laptop I was told to clear it and than dowload windows xp back on it I have wireless at work but home I have dail-up and it tells me I have no modem help


Dial up connection needs a modem for the authentication with a telephone number - without modem no one can work with internet .yes if you want to use your laptop wireless you can do it but to do that you should have a DSL service with a wireless router .
this is how the connections in DSL is been done
DSL(telephone line) ->modem->wireless router->computer

you need to register the router to your internet provider so that the modem will always give an internet connection to the router even if the router will be reset.

from that the xbox should follow through and connect to xbox live if you have an open NAT type.

The Laptop must have a wireless option for wireless connection to a wireless router, or an Ethernet cable so you can connect to a normal broadband (DSL) modem / or wireless router.

The Internet service provider should have provided a DSL router. If not you can purchase one from most electronic stores, they can show you the cheapest model available.

Xbox 360 live on wireless router


In theory you should be able to "share" your internet connection. I use a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router and I have a Linksys Game adapter on my son's 360. He has not complained about lag or slow server times unless other intensive bandwidth is being used.

Xbox 360 to wireless laptop


Make sure ethernet cable from XBOX 360 is connected to one of the 4 access ports on the back of the router.
