Question about HP Compaq d530 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Unexpected restart i have an older Compaq desktop. (pentium 2) i am running windows xp. i already know this computer should not be running xp but it seems to handle it fine. i have only one problem. when i try to maximize something, the computer restarts itself. i can run these same programs in windowed mode perfectly, however some of these programs require you to actually start them before you can get into windowed mode. Therefore rendering them useless to me. can you please help me with this problem?

Usually you can just right click to desktop program and then go to properties. From there you should see an option that says Run: and next to it you can choose how the program will start up in either normal window, maximized, or minimized.

You didn't state the O/S.
So I'm going to use Windows XP Home for an example;

HP Support > HP Compaq dc7600 > HP Compaq 7600 Convertible Minitower PC > Download drivers and software > HP Compaq dc7600 Base Model Convertible Minitower PC > Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition >

BIOS > 786D BIOS Family Processor Microcode Update

Current version -> 11.1A / 31Jul/ 2006
Size -> 0.38
Estimated download time -> 1Minute
Previous version -> 1.09A/ 11 Oct 2005
Click on Download at the end.

A small window will come up on the right.
Opening sp33313.exe
Click on Save File.

Another small window will come up on the left. In the wording at the top of the window tells you where the file will download to. You may wish to write it down.
It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording.

Desktop: The file will be on your desktop screen
My Documents:
Click on Start, then My Documents

Downloads:
Click on Start, then My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads

When you see the file name (sp33313) DOUBLE-click right on it
The Installation Wizard will appear. At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on Next, Next, and Finish.

If you are not asked to Restart your computer, close all windows, go back to your desktop screen. Restart your computer.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart )

Compaq system board 686,0MB (320756) board manual

That's an old mainboard (Motherboard), used in a Compaq Presario 5716 desktop computer. (And perhaps a few other Compaq Presario's)

1) Uses a Slot 1 (Intel) processor slot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slot_1

2) Maximum Intel Slot 1 processor that can be used, is an Intel Pentium III, with a 100MegaHertz Front Side Bus. (100MHz FSB)
Maximum frequency rate for the processor is 700MHz.
('Speed')

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/TYPE-Pentium%20III%20%28Katmai%29.html

(Scroll the page down)

3) Ram memory is SDR Sdram at 100MHz. Or also known as PC-100. (168 pin. 82 on each side. Two Locating Notches on bottom. Commonly just known as Sdram, but that is a misnomer)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC100

Maximum TOTAL Amount of ram memory is 384MegaByte.
Maximum Amount for each ram memory slot is 128MB.
There are 3 ram memory slots.

4) Do not know what the jumper settings on the motherboard are.

5) Do not know what the Front Panel header pinout is.

6) Can run Windows XP Home Edition, but do not expect a world of performance.

Desktop compaq d51s, pentium 4 2.5/512/40 windows xp sp2 drivers. the graphics are actually very poor, only 4bit

This indicates the correct video driver was not installed and the generic VGA driver was installed.
You can download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP orVista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click onthis link to download the drivers: -

Theyare telling you that your computer takes PC-100 memory at a clock speed of 222Hz. This is memory for older, slower, Pentium III computers. It wiil run Windows Xp Pro on a pentium III at a fairly good speed if you install at least 512MB and have a hard drive with 30GB of disk space. This memory shipped with the pentium III that usually had a HD of 10GB or less in computers made around 2001-2002.

You need the disk, it needs to replace the damaged files, Is this an XP system. Any disk will work to repair it but you have to have your Origianl to re-install completely.

Once you get one, I can run your through the system repair through Command prompt by booting from disk.

Let me know and good luck.

Pc restarts automatically and unexpectedly

Good Evening Sunnyseber :

Hope that you are wellJ
You did not indicate the type of Operating System.
This document pertains to HP and Compaq computers with Windows Vista. If Windows Vista suddenly starts without warning, or restarts when you try to shut it down, it may be because your operating system is set to automatically restart when certain system errors occur. This feature of the Windows Vista operating system can be disabled. Use the information below to disable the Automatically Restart option. NOTE: In addition to the steps in this article, updating video card drivers is known to resolve many of the problems that can cause the computer to restart. Step 1: Disabling Automatically restart option to view error messages You can prevent the computer from restarting by turning off the Automatically Restart option:
  1. Click Start c00971562.gif .
  2. Right-click Computer , and click Properties
  3. Click Advanced system settings .
  4. Click the Advanced tab and select Settings in the Startup and Recovery section.
  5. Remove the check mark next to Automatically restart under System Failure .
  6. Click OK to close the Startup and Recovery window and click OK , again, and then close the System Properties window.
  7. Restart the computer. NOTE: The computer will no longer restart automatically when a problem occurs. Instead a blue screen appears with more useful information. You can now search for a resolution using the text from the error.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

And, remember, always include the type of Operating System and the type of computer you own, when you submit your questions. It simply makes for much faster solutions.

Have a wonderful evening.
