the problem that you are having m1212 might be because there is a that piece of paper that is jamed in the printer. if you can strip the printer then remove the main top cover to acess the centre rollers then use a new full sheet of paper and push it threw the main centre rollers to clear out small pieces of paper. if you not sure on what to do get some 1 who knows printers as this maybe abit tricky.
I had a similar problem with my HP C6180 printer, and HP tech support was useless. I had no paper stuck and did all the steps from HP.com. My carriage jam also came with a grinding sound (it was not able to move all the way to the right). I looked inside and and on the lower right side there was a white pad that was raised (I think this cleans the print heads). After unplugging the printer, I used a screw driver to pushed this pad down and to the back of the printer. It moved back and a black sponge like pad moved up from under the front of the printer. I then closed the lid, and used the HP software to clean and realign the print heads. Everything is working fine now. No guarantees this will work for you, but it saved me from having to get a new printer.

I've read that inkjets are best for home photos. But I really want a color laser printer ( fax not necessary)for my home that at least does decent photos for my personal use. Any suggestions?
