You have to open the case of the laptop and replug the cables of hard disk. if you are not familier with the hardware then you have to take your lap top for servicing

First go into your bios setup by pressing either F1, F2, Del or F10. Then check there if the hard drive is listed in the first tab. If not then your hard drive is faulty, but if it does show there then It means your hard drive is working. It might just be bad sectors on the partition of the hard drive. Take the hard drive out and connect it to a desktop pc if it picks up on the desktops windows then just backup your data and re-install windows.

Dell inspiron 1545 laptop wont boot. Error unable to locate hard disk drive

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Dell inspiron 1545 Laptop computer is getting BSOD on boot, when first ran diagnostics got error: Hard Drive - DST Test Results - Fail Error Code 2000-0142 Msg Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful status...

The error indicates that there's a hard drive issue. If it just happened after the hard disk is reinstalled, remove it and reinstall it. It could be a problem caused by loose connection or improper connections. If the same problem repeats, install the hard drive on another system (to verify whether it works on another machine or not and to confirm it still works). If it doesn't work on another computer/system then your only option to run the system is replacing the hard disk. If it works on another computer or if it's detected on another system, then there could be problem with the hard disk, eg. Corrupt Partition, Windows Corrupt etc....
First of all, try booting into Safe Mode. You have to press F8 during the startup to go into Advanced Boot Options. Once you are in the Windows Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard. If it still doesn't work, it's the hard disk issue. Try with another Hard Disk.
But if in case you can boot into safe mode, check the Hard Disk for errors. In other words, run Windows Checkdisk utility. Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Hello, You dont need another hard disk, because that error is from the software you are making use of at that time. It was deleting your system files without you knowing that. Just look for a windows cd and reinstall your windows and you will enjoy your system again.

Wont load windows got a black screen with a flashing under score in the top left hand corner f2 and f12 beep when I push, then

Most likely a hard drive issue. Might have a corrupt boot sector, might be a failing hard drive. Remove HDD and see if you can boot to a windows CD, if you can then the issue is with the drive.

Dell Inspiron 1545 will not boot up.

Try removing battery and booting on AC power only from adaptor
Then take out ram modules and reseat these, try to boot
Disconnect hard drive, DVD rom drive and try to boot.

If you get a beep sound, this shows that at least there is power to the system. Note down the number of beeps and post the result.

I cannot get my dell inspirion 1545 laptop to boot up

If the laptop turns on, but you get an error during boot it could be a broken operating system. Try to re-install. If that fails, you have a broken hard drive. You can get a new one on ebay or laptop hard drive store. somebody has to open the Laptop and replace the part. The part is available on ebay. Here's a guide on how to disassemble a Laptop. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there are third party Laptop Repair Services.
