Question about Whirlpool 17.6 cu. ft. Top-Freezer Refrigerator w/ Factory-Installed Icemaker

1 Answer

I have been using Wirlpool ARC 4020/1 IX for two years. Recently the following problem started to occur at random times: it turns on normally and in a minute it starts beating. The noise, coming from the compressor, is regular and keeps that way on up to 1 hour. At that, the compressor is warming up and gets hot at the end of session, while the heat exchange grid on the back is cool. At last, its turns off and turns on in normal mode at due time. Because it happans at random, I cannot show anything to a serviceman when he comes. Can you advise anything? Alex

It beats because the inflow valve on the compressor locks up. Since the valve is inside it, no way of fixing it. When this happens tap the compressor with something heavy, it might unfreeze the valve - but this is a temporary fix, in the end you will gonna have to replace the compressor.

Your original problem of failed electrolytic capacitors (common) may be the same one occurring in the replacement if it was a 'pull' from another set.
Normally, depending on the quality of the parts used, these supplies will survive for several years before failing.

If this was in fact removed from another set, it's time to return it if there was any kind of warranty.
If not, the repair cost isn't that great if you have an honest tech in your area.

15amp Eaton Arc fault breaker type BRAF trips every day at same time. There are no high amp electrical things plugged in. What is causing this? should I have it replaced?

"Arc fault" breakers trip when an arc occurs, either in a receptacle or a light switch, for example. An arc can be caused by an old light switch, when turning it on. An arc can also occur when you unplug a chord while the device is still turned on or running.

Sony Turntable will only start turning once in a while

Remove the turntable and clean the under side with denatured alcohol. Make sure you remove ALL residue from the alcohol. Next, get a bottle of rubber drive cleaner from an electronics hobby store and clean the drive wheel and the motor spindle. Finally, put one drop of oil at each end of the motor shaft, directly at the bearing.

Mo del no. p60752eb spark when you turn on

SOMETIMES a spark at the spark gaps provided at the sockets of CRT'S HAPPENS. They put spark gaps because some tube arc when the high voltage comes up initially and the spark gaps protect the semiconductors which drive the tube grids the gaps are protecting.

Any sustained arc of course is a no-no. A single snap can occur at times. Watch for anything indicating failure in the normal operation and get it serviced.

20 amp breaker pops with only a light (60watts) and a small tv on. samething occurs in another room with an iron and a light on, These items can't possibly be brawing 20 amps. Is there a problem with these...

I have been an electrician for 11 years and when these breakers came out in 2005 what a nightmare. These circuit breakers are extremely sensitive. They are designed to sense loose connections and to protect your house from fires caused by them. By increasing the load (ie. more lights or tv) it increases the size of the "arc" created by the loose connection and the circuit breaker trips before the 20 amp maximum. What I normally find as the cause is a loose connection in one of the receptacles or switches on the circuit. A lot of times, installers will use the "quick stab" inserts on the back of the outlets or switches instead of the side screws. Usually, if you "side screw" all of the receptacles and switches it will resolve the nuisance tripping. One other item that can cause them to trip is too many dimmers on the arc circuit but it doesn't sound like that is the problem you're having.

Microwave Arcing

The metal shelf that comes with most microwave ovens must NEVER come in contact with any surface of the cavity wall or arcing will occur. (this is why its is mounted on plastic clips). IF you are not using the shelf to cook multiple items (as most people don't)....Remove the shelf and store somewhere else until needed.
