HP Media XP Desktop won't boot up...

I have an HP Media Center desktop (m470n) running XP Media Center 2004 edition. It would hang at the XP screen at regular boot up but would boot up into safe mode. I created the restore CD's and did a full restore (reformatting the hard drive). It finishes the restore but it hangs at the XP screen again saying please wait. I can still move the mouse and I've let it run for 24 hours now but still no change. It doesn't go into setup mode. What can I do?

I ran the Recovery CD's I created, then I ran Recovery CD's I ordered from HP, then I hit f10 and ran the recovery option from the recovery partition on the hard drive. They all get through the recovery and hang when I press restart. So I'm sure it's not the CD's or the CD-Rom. There was no diagnostic tool when I pressed f10, just the recovery option. The system sees all the memory. The system also sees the hard drive and appears to read and write to it when I'm loading the CD's. Any other advice would be appreciated.

If yours is an original hp it should have a rescue or diagnostics partition that you should be able to access by pressing f10 in here you will find a diagnostics tool that will help isolate if you have a bad cd rom or memory. If all tests come out good then you need to get a hold of another cd; maybe your's is scratched.

If it has an onboard video card then reload the video driver.

If it has a PCI-e / AGP video card then download latest drivers and re-install driver, Dont forget to un-install original driver first.

Failing all that see if you can edit the screen resolution in safe mode. (Press F8 when you first switch PC on.

Hp dv1000 media card

Hello,

Remove the media card while booting.

If there is no media in the card reader, press F8 after the laptop beeps during boot and this should give you a Safe Mode boot screen, choose Safe Mode and then your default OS listed. After you get your desktop, restart the laptop.

If when you press F8 you get a boot from what screen, choose your hard drive and then immediately press F8 again to get the Safe Mode boot screen.

You need to either remove the flash media or use Safe Mode and then restart to reset the Boot Ini information script.

Let me know if this works for you or not, as we may need to take another measure.

Regards,
Worldvet

Window XP Media Center Edition won't boot up if Brother MFC-440CN is connected.

I would go first with Brother's support suggestion. You can always go back to the original BIOS setting.
