Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

Hello, I have a Initial IDM 1210 portable dvd player. Yesterday, after inserting a dvd, suddenly appeared the message "WRONG REGION". Consider that I live in Italy and I bought the player 4 years ago in Miami and the Initial assistance already sent me some instructions to reset the region code in order to play italian dvds. But I have lost these instructions. Consider, also, that the "preferences" item in the Setup Menu is disabled (why?) Can you help me? Thank you

As I have written in my ask, I cannot go into "preferences" item in the Setup Menu because it is disabled. So, how can I do it?
    Thank you

    Hi Ginko,

what do you mean by "service mode"? Is it another way to enter the preference menu? How can I do it?

    Thank you

Hi Antonio.

If the preference item looks disabled there is no way to apply the region hack. The only region change procedure known for this player is by operating such menu. I think I wrote you yesterday in Italian. The preference menu is also needed to enter in service mode.

The only repair that I can think of is by reinstalling the DVD firmware. Online there is no firmware available for this unit. The only way to get the firmware is by contacting the manufacturer.

The Initial IDM 1210 was built by Mintek. Although there was no notice of company closing down, they did shut down any online support.

Check if there is any number or contact in your copyy of the manual. If there is none, then there is no way to get the firmware for this unit, and the DVD cannot be fixed.

Note: A last resort can be dropping a mail to this folks here. They do program chips, and have done a lot of works on different Mintek Initial units. I suggest giving it a try.

In case you get back use of pref. menu, here the hack (again):http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/mintek-mdp-1020/4432

Here the manual (no support contact in there): http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/acekaraoke/IDM-1210.pdf

    Hi.

Service mode is the special menu that the tech uses to access diagnostic and change some setting that is precluded to the user. Like the region code change, which is not supposed to be available to the user.

Unfortunately on this units service mode is accessed through the preferences menu. Accessing service mode is part of the hack procedure described before. I think this was procedure for this model:

    From preferences menu press 2 2 5 4 2 2 on the remote.

It is a dog (...or a cat in Italian) biting its tail.

I assume that you try already the simple reset that gets done disconnecting power and removing battery for about ten/twenty minutes, to drain power completely. If that does not work, a further reset can be done disassemblying the unit, locating and interrupting contact to the internal EEPROM battery (which is not necessarily a coin battery, it is probably soldered). That job is better done by a technician and may not solve the problem.

could be a pal/ntsc region code problem, either the menu setting is pal and your playing a ntsc region coded dvd or the menu is correctly set at ntsc and the dvd is pal that you are trying to play
