I had the same problem with mine and found a nice little program called ShutDown. It's freeware and does just what it says. I put it in it's own category so that it only takes 2 taps; choose the category then tap the program.

To perform a full reset A full device reset clears memory, deletes all data, and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain. All data that you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
Press and hold the Power button, and then use your stylus to press the “soft reset button” at the same time. Be sure you have backed up all your data on an SD card or on a desktop PC before performing a full reset. Hope this helps.

Put the main battery in first, then the backup battery and put the battery switch in the lock position. Press the power button and you should see initializing memory..., then starting..., then it will ask you to set up the device.
