Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I can get the magenta color to print. I have tried cleaning, deep cleaning, and even installed a new magenta cartridge--all to no avail.

The printer I am using is a Canon Pixma MP980 Photo All-in-One Printer. I have tried deep cleaning, regular cleaning, nozzle check, taking out the ink cartridge (magenta) and cleaning the ink access area with a q-tip and alcohol, but still I have no magenta ink coming out. There is a lever which I can lift up for the entire carriage, but I don't really know what this lever is for, because when I lift it up, I can't remove the carriage, or I don't really know what its purpose is. I am not sure if the printing head is on the carrier separate from the carriage, so I don't know about trying your other suggestion with the lint-free cloth soaked in alcohol and placing it on the location of the cartridge. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Peter

I am still in the process of using alcohol on the print head to
try to dissolve any hardened ink. The printer I have is a Canon Pixma MP980 Photo All-in-One Printer. I was able to remove the ink cartidges carrier which has the print head on the bottom. I removed all of the cartridges, put some alcohol on a paper towel and also used some cotton swabs to clean out the inside of the carrier, as well as rubbed alcohol with a cotton swab on the print head. So far, I still haven't gotten much luck getting
it to print with magenta. Another option I think would be to
buy a new print head which would be less than half the cost of a new printer. If I could only find out how to clean out the waste ink chambers or sponges, or whatever the case may be.
    Thanks.

You haven't mentioned the exact brand and model of your printer so i/m assuming that the cartridge also has the printing head. Take out the cartridge and look at the contacts from the carrier - if they are dirty the head will not be correctly recognized or commanded - clean them with alcohol.
If the printing head is on the carrier - separate from the cartridge -  then your only option left is to soak a piece of lint free cloth in isopropylic alcohol, place it in the location of the cartridge and pour some more alcohol over it - it should dissolve the hardened ink. If even after you have done that the magenta ink isn't printed then the printer head is damaged - sorry, you need a new printer.

On your printer the printing head is separate from the cartridge. Move the carriage to a position in which you can lift the lever vertically and take it out.
Now you can do a proper cleaning. Start by keeping it  completely it in hot distilled water for an hour, then soak it in alcohol for 10 minutes, then start wiping it with a paper towel and pouring hot water from the tap until the towels look clean.
Put it back, run a few more cleaning cycles and try again. If even now it's not working then it's dead - replace it.

For that you can either just dismantle the printer, locate the ink pads, take them out and wash them or just flip the front door , put the printer under a tap and pour water over the pads while they are inposition. Pour it until the water flows clean, shake it vigorously to get most of the water out of it and after that wait at least a day to be fully dried before plugging it back in the mains

The magenta won't work. i put a new cartridge, cleaned headers, test printed. all the other colors work find but, NO magenta comes out.

This sounds like you are using an aftermarket or refilled ink cartridge. If this is the case, try putting in a new OEM magenta ink cartridge and running the deep cleaning utility 3 times. This usually clears a clogged nozzle caused by non-OEM loaded inks.
Let me know if this clears the problem. Thanks.

Canon Pixma yellow color problem

Either the ink you are using is not going to give the color you want, or you have print heads that are blocked.

HP Photosmart 3210xi - some colors (magentas) will not print

Remove the magenta cartridge, and try cleaning the head with alcohol, maybe with a small paint brush or an acid brush. It sounds like ink has dried and plugged up that head.

IP4300 only recognizes magenta OR cyan

1. Get compressed air
2. Run Printhead under HOT water, do not worry about contacts getting slightly wet.

3. Blow compressed air with straw attachment into screens where the cartridge nozzle sits on printhead. then let it sit and dry.

4. reinstall print test page

5. if this fails open paint/photoshop and print a page of the color that is not printing correctly. rinse and repeat until colors flow freely.

I have several ip4300s and I have yet to give up the ghost on a printer with a clog ujsing this method.

Won't print red

Red is a combination of Magenta and Yellow. Print a nozzle check and observe for Magenta, Yellow and cyan. If the three colours are printed, no problem with the cartridge. Then it must be the problem of seeing colours in your monitor. .
