no no no pull out the charge unit ***'y out of the copier (green handle) ull see build up of toner on the grid and charge wire, take the grid off and clean everything but dont brake the wire!!!!!! ull need to clean the dev unit edges and the drum so it wont happend again. Also ull need to clean filters on the back of the copier and 2 filters inside by pass table one big 1 small for wich ull need to take the side cover off 4 screws very important.
Sounds like you may not have the main corona pushed fully home or you cleaned the grid with the grid cleaner that comes with the toner cartridge. When cleaning the grid you must leave the corona unit protruding out of the copier for 30 seconds to allow the grid to dry.Failure to do so can cause arcing in the machine that will give you black copies.reclean the grid and allow to dry before re-inserting
TO empty the waste toner on a KM/CS 1820 you have to remove one of the side covers from the drum unit on the machine and vac out the old toner i've had customers try to reuse the toner please do not do this. just vac it out good and your normaly good to go!!
