"card error"

have a 256mb xd-card in camera. It reads "card error" when camera is turned on. I would like to down load pictures from camera. please advise!

pull memory card out and try to download w/card reader and see if that works to off load pictures- if pics safe on computer reformat card in camera but you will lose all data!
