Assuming you haven't changed the auto-off timers, yes. The default time-out for image review is 4 seconds.

The auto-off timer settings are in the Setup menu. Press the MENU button, select the wrench icon, and scroll down.

Can i take pics with the lcd monitor ?

Unfortunately, the D3000 is one of the dSLR models that do not offer the LiveView feature. You'll have to use the D3000 the way people have used SLRs for half a century, looking through the viewfinder to compose photos.

Issues with the auto screen control. Check the set up and see if all the adjustments are out of wack.Try bringing them ito normal picture manually. If this does not wor it is tech time

Nikon D3000 Monitor is black when taking a picture - any way to change it?

You can get the shooting information on it. If you're looking to use the D3000 as a point&shoot by viewing the image on the screen, then no, you have to use the viewfinder.

When turning on the unit, hold these two keys down: MENU/MAP for about 5 sec then release. That should reset the unit.
