If a battery leaks into anything, you should not even bother trying to resurrect it.If you touched the acid, put baking soda on the area touched for several seconds then rinse off.I had some batteries that were a couple years old and when I opened it I noticed there was acid leak on one leaking to a 2nd one.I threw the whole package out.For all it may be worth to save the remote,it isn't worth it considering the capability of damage just from a little acid escaping however it may happen. It may not be as strong as other lethal type acids but if a little gets on your furniture, over time people will sit on it,kids may put their hands on it then put it in their mouth, and eventually will damage your furniture.Good luck! Why isn't remote working after battery replacement?

As long as the battery produces what the remote needs it should work. However the remote itself could be faulty. Or the remote sensor on your device could be faulty. Check that the old battery has not leaked and messed up the contacts. Plus the new battery is actually touching the contacts!

My TV remote control has stopped working. I've tried changing the batteries but it still doesn't work. Any tips or do I have to get a new one?

Check for rusted battery contacts due to leaked batteries. Clean them with polish paper or blade. Due to leaked batteries it is quite likely that the wires connecting remote control pcb & battery contacts are cut off.

Battery leaked in my tv remote....changed batteries, clean debris from inside..it is not pretty clean...now it will not turn tv on or off, but will change channels, volume, etc. I just so happened to have...

Probably not, the PCBoard is possibly damaged are the carbonated buttons.
A replacement remote is fairly cheap as is a one for all with the required functions.
Such a waste I do agree.

The remote for my Sharp LC42D85 stopped working. I changed the batteries but that did't work. Any suggestions?

When your remote stops working it usually is caused by 2 things.
The first being that the remote control has either been banged against a hard surface thereby damaging some of the internal components.
The other option being that the previous batteries leaked inside and also caused some for of damage.
In the first option you just have to get a replacement remote for your unit. In the second option you can get a repair expert to take a look at the remote clean it up for you and you remote is working fine again.
Hope this solution has been helfpul?

Remote for Sony vcr works intermittently.

Sounds like the connections inside the remote are damaged and might need soldering. Check the connections around where the battery terminals are carefully. Has a battery leaked in the remote?

Remote control stopped working for Samsung DVD/VCR combo.

A quick and simple way to test and check if you have an output from the remote is to point it at your cellphone's camera and then to push any button, you should see a pulsing light on the display of your phones screen. If not then either the batteries you put in is also expired, or if the remote was standing for a long time with the old set of batteries in it you could have some corrosion on the contacts in the remote from leaking acid. Clean the contacts with fine grit sandpaper and try again.
If you get pulsing light then you need to program the remote again, if it is a programmable remote as it resets after approx 3 months once the batteries dies. A remote Make and model number would be helpfull in providing your with the correct sequence of programming.

I changed the batteries in my phillips universal remote and when I did it would not work. I have a magnavox tv but I do not have the code or know the steps to fix it

You shouldn't have to do anything after changing the batteries. Philips and Magnavox are the same brand, so the Philips univeral control should work your TV without programming it. Check the batteries and make sure your new ones are in facing the right direction. Also be sure the new batteries are actually good. I've fixed remotes for people by just changing the batteries again, even though the replacements were fresh out of the package. Also, did the old batteries leak in the remote? The battery contacts may have corrosion on them. There's also the chance the TV's remote sensor is at fault. If you can, try the remote with another Magnavox TV or program it for another device and see if it's working, or try another remote with your TV. If you need programming instructions for your remote, you can usually find them on the manufacturer's website.
